Delapore recovered his ancient ancestral home and had it rebuilt; he had planned to retire there and spend his dotage in comfort. When he arrived at the estate he found the locals offish and reluctant to speak to him. There was a well understood abhorrence of the Delapore family and had been for centuries.

That first night the real trouble began. An inexplicable scurrying and padding of tiny feet within the solid stone brickwork....

I picked this version based on the narrator. I didn't want some dramatised version, this isn't Eastenders or some other TV soap and I think the voice and tone of the narrator really complimented the story further in the time period its written in as well as the time the story its set in and its history.

Always wanted to read/listen a H.P Lovecraft story and this was a nice starter. I enjoy the style of the story and the build up was just right not too drawn out. The ending was a bit underwhelming. Other than that I did enjoy!
