Summary

The intoxicating and bloodthirsty finale to the New York Times best-selling The Cruel Prince, nominated for the Cilip Carnegie Medal 2019, and New York Times best seller The Wicked King.

After being pronounced Queen of Faerie and then abruptly exiled by the Wicked King Cardan, Jude finds herself unmoored, the queen of nothing. She spends her time with Vivi and Oak, watching reality television, and doing odd jobs, including squaring up to a cannibalistic faerie.

When her twin sister, Taryn, shows up asking a favour, Jude jumps at the chance to return to the Faerie world, even if it means facing Cardan, whom she loves despite his betrayal. When a dark curse is unveiled, Jude must become the first mortal Queen of Faerie and break the curse or risk upsetting the balance of the whole Faerie world.

Is it possible for a story to be rushed yet drag at the same time?

Dragged on a bit compared to the previous books and got a little boring in parts. The constant back and forth between Jude and Madoc as he continued to scheme got tiring. Rather than get to the point, the book was padded out with unnecessary filler stuff which made for stupid character decisions, (e.g. what Taryan did). By the end of the book I just wanted it to finish.

Loved them all

Loved all 3 books, the characters, the narrator and the story. Fast paced and not knowing what comes next in this Faerie world. Concluded well but perhaps open to a sequel trilogy one hopes.

Finished it in 6 days

I've been obsessively listening to all the Folk of the Air audio books and I'm so sad it's over! I fell in love with the characters and plot barely gave me time to breathe. I do feel like these books would've been better if they were even darker but I loved it all the same. Caitlin Kelly's narration is brilliant, she really brings the characters to life.

it's not as good as the first book, it feels less passionate and less engaging

Totally hooked

I was shocked at the ending of the last book... and this one doesn't disappoint.

Lots of twists and turns. Great finale.

Disappointed

So I was late to the party for this series and I only read the first book at the end of last year just before the second book came out in January 2019. I have been so so excited about this third book and when the publication was brought forward I was beyond stoked!

I'm going, to be honest, and say I did not love this as much as the first two. I won't spoil it for those that haven't read it yet but the 'black moment' I did not get it! I know others loved it but then there are some out there like me who just did not understand.

I thought the whole story was rushed. The audio is 9 hours and I think the written version is about 300 pages or so. I expected so much more for the ending of this story.

Holly's usual writing style was there but I realised I was over halfway through and quite honestly nothing had really happened. I am so so disappointed with the ending but it wouldn't put me off reading more of Holly's work in the future because I know her writing can be so much more.
