About this listen

Best friends. Broken promises. Buried secrets.

Ten years ago Rose made a promise to help her goddaughter Eloise if she was ever in trouble.

A promise she may live to regret.

But she meant every word… until the night Eloise turns up on her doorstep covered in blood and asking for the unthinkable.

Rose has buried secrets before. Only this time they're about to come back and haunt her.

I took advantage of the Plus Catalogue and listened to all of the AJ McDine books in between credit days. Without exception each first read feels like a second or third as the plots are totally transparent.
As always the first person style highlights the obtuse nature of the protagonist as she leads the reader through her obviously wrong conclusions.
It filled a few hours on dog walks and in the gym but I won’t be revisiting this author.

Could write the same review for every book this author has written

I'm sure it's a personal preference but I find that writing that is too detailed in who says what when and in what way, every detail of every movement and expression, makes me fall out of the story. There was too much detail in general that took me out of the mood and story.
It was also, unfortunately quite predictable and still slow and drawn out. I was missing that tension and being kept on your toes and instead wishing the story would get on. For me, there was also too much cliché-writing, making it feel unoriginal.

Enjoyable but predictable

This is a great story and was well narrated. Though I did predict the protagonist, I still devoured the book wanting to know how the main character would discover the information and how things would play out.

Fabulous

Loved it! Nice pace, twists and kept my interest throughout. Narrator was great too … good free audible book

Twisty

Coming from the area the book was based, the pronunciation of the local village where I had lived irritated me a little, especially as it was repeated frequently. Otherwise the book and storyline overall was ok.

Struggled with narrator a little
