Summary

The Promise is a unforgettable story about finding love, hope and joy in even the darkest moments, by the Sunday Times best seller Lucy Diamond, author of The Secrets of Happiness.

When faced with the sudden death of his brother, Dan’s mission is clear. He puts together a project to help pick up the pieces and support his grieving sister-in-law Zoe, plus her young children. This is Dan’s promise - to ensure his family’s happiness and to try and live up to the man his brother was.

But tying up loose ends brings a shocking secret to light and calls into question everything Dan knew about his older brother. With more than just his promise on the line, Dan is faced with an ultimatum: should he tell the truth and risk his family’s fragile happiness, or will his brother’s secrets end up becoming his own?

what a journey!!

I was hooked from the first page and couldn't stop listening to this. what an emotional journey for all of the characters in this book. The sudden death of one man; Patrick Shepherd has affected so many lives, wife, kids, brother, parents and others all with their own memories, guilty feelings, whys, what ifs and if onlys. The narrator was great and did a fantastic job with the story and characters. I couldn't recommend this enough!

nice moving storyline from start to finish as it unfolded. The narrator was very good at using different voices for the characters.

Another lovely family story

Lucy Diamond creates wonderful characters and very well portrayed by Catrin Stewart’s excellent reading. I particularly loved the interaction between them all.

A moving and well told story

I really enjoyed this story. The plot is quite unusual and is much more about emotions than location. The characters are portrayed realistically and are believable and the as the plot unfolds, the scenarios that develop are lifelike and you can imagine this happening in real life. My only criticism is that being a male listener I wanted Dan to someimes grow some balls.
A very good story that I could not stop listening and excellently narrated.

Emotional ride with happy ending

Really a simple enough story of normal people, thrown into a tragic and sad situation.
Predictable in some ways but a well told tale with a happy ending

Beautifully written and read

Thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the characters and I totally fell into the story. It’s delightful and I just couldn’t stop listening. Mostly predictable, but occasionally a quirk I wasn’t expecting. The way Lucy describes Bea (the little girl) was gorgeous, her little ways were so believable. Narration was perfect.
