Summary
First published in 1970, The Primal Scream challenged all existing forms of therapy of its time by presenting a new approach to psychological trauma-based psychotherapy, based on Janov's theory that neurosis is caused by the repressed pain of childhood trauma.

Primal Therapy and DMT-Cures not Customers
Freud and Jung are tbe beginning of modern psychotherapy, not the be all and end all.
Janov discovered a more direct route to curing life long neurosis at any age.
Simply by finding the actual event in your past that caused it and feeling the actual repressed emotion rather than discussing it abstractly by the hour every week while you pay for your shrink’s kids’ college fund.
Modern medicine and psychology seems more focused on intellectualising emotions and behavior and then attempts to reprogram them as with cognitive behavioral therapy.
Janov seeks to cure the root cause by actually feeling the pain of the disconnected event.
We pass neurosis on to our children without knowing it. We live as an artificial mask of our real selves.
Janov found a way to get us back to our real selves, not the version that we had to become in order to emitionally survive our parents neurotic play. Acting out roles over and over again like a brokn record.
His seminal work, The Primal Scream, influenced the group Tears for Fears to make 2 iconic slbums The Hurting and Shout in the 1980s with songs like Shout, Mad World and so many others.
I ran away from school to go and do Janov’s therapy in the 80s and I almost made it. My mother and aunt conspired to con me back to the UK. Probably my greatest regret in life now.
There is light at the end, though. It turns outthe outcome if Primal Therapy is remarkably similar to the outcomes of DMT and Ayahuasca (commonly called 20 years of psychotherapy in one night).
Steve Jobs once said (and he probably stole the line) that “ All the world’s religions were just different doorways into the same house.”
I feel that Ayahuasca and the active ingredient, DMT are tapping into the same healing force as Primal Therapy, perhaps different doirways into that same house.
Janov died in 2012 so I missed my chance to meet him ior even be lucky enough to be treated by him.
So long Arthur, and thank you for this marvellous discovery. The more “real people” in the world rhe more chance we have to survive.

speechless
I'm so far in 40th minute and I'm speechless
This book is so much about me...
On this planet almost nobody had perfect patient parents full of love and understanding
My dad Was not drinking alcohol but he acted just as he would. So much anger , shouting, bullying so many years, even mum Was afraid of him . Since 21 I'm living about 1000 miles away from family home and still suffer from childhood ( not only childhood , he Was even worse when I Was teenager , more anger beating, not fulfilling his demands )
this book makes me speechless already ...
