Summary

You probably hate giving presentations; you probably hate listening to them too. Why? Because most business presentations are too long, too detailed, too boring, and submerged under a blizzard of PowerPoint. But the single most important presentational tool known to man isn't a slideshow; it's you.

Whether you're speaking to one person across a table, 20 people in a boardroom or 1,000 people in a ballroom, it's all about the words you say and how you say them. The Presentation Coach shows you how to use what you've already got to give you clarity, confidence and impact in every speaking challenge you will ever face.

You'll learn the unique Bare Knuckle five-step process to effective presenting, and how to apply it to all business speaking, from large-scale presentations to one-to-one client meetings. Graham Davies has been coaching high-profile individuals from the worlds of business, politics and entertainment in exactly these techniques for the past 25 years. Now it's your turn. Graham has used all the experience he has gained from his time as President of the Cambridge Union, a criminal barrister and an international speaker to develop a highly transferable presentation methodology that can be adapted to any situation.

He is the joint founder of the consultancy Straight Talking, which has a fifteen-year track record in presentation coaching for a spectacular client list, including Tesco, IBM, Porsche, KPMG and UBS.

Critic reviews

"Graham Davies is a brilliantly funny speaker who knows how to inspire and enthuse anyone who sees presenting as a bore, a burden or a source of terror." (Nick Robinson, Political Editor, BBC)
"This book really captures Graham's intense and robust sense of coaching. Just like the author, it is amusing, punchy and really comforting to have access to in all presentation situations." (Michel Combes, CEO, Vodafone Europe)
"I don't know anyone who could wear the label 'the presentation coach' more confidently than Graham" ( Daniel Finkelstein, The Times)

Presentation Excellence At It's Best!

What did you like most about The Presentation Coach?

The Presentation Coach by Graham Davies covered everything you need to know about giving excellent presentations in any situation, be it business or in your personal life. I particularly liked the smooth articulate voice of narrator Glen McCready!.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Graham's reference to "Bare Knuckle Brilliance" captivated me, knowing that he had stripped presenting back to basics, not only helping a would be novice like me learn from the bottom up but also so that a seasoned speaker would gain expert insight from a presenter like Graham at the top of his speaking profession.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

Every chapter!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, I listened mainly in the evening to only one or two chapters at a time then kept the audiobook playing while I drifted to sleep knowing that the following chapters would subliminally sink in to my brain. I continued this pattern untill I had listened to the whole book!

Any additional comments?

If you only ever purchase one book on presentation skills "The Presentation Coach" is a must have!

It really works

I recently re heard the book to refresh a presentation I was regurgitating for a different audience and conference focus

Glad that I did! And changed the story to bring an angle and story that was in my head but couldn’t articulate clearly previously

Feedback from the organisers was ‘ voted the best presentation for the entire event’ and I could see the engagement right to the end and after

It did take me 3 reads to reprogram my head though

more for the after dinner speaker

some good tips early on, but as you progress you find the book is aimed more for the big stage and after dinner speakers. So for me limited value for business presentations

Not the best resource if you are a nervous speaker

AVOID , taking an extra long time to explain all the bad things that will happen if you get nervous during your presentation is hardly going to help. I wss waiting for the "but of course none of this will happen' and that didn't happen. The presenter is arrogant and smug beyond belief, I couldn't finish this book. Find something else.

Glib

Some interesting concepts - but given in such a glib manner. Also strangely aggressive vocabulary all the way through - talk of missiles and punches and kicks... not something I'd have thought would be a problem. But after a few chapters it felt like i was being pummelled by this book. Also interesting that such a famed speaker... doesnt read his own work. Odd

A waste of a book credit

I really can't emphasise enough how poor this book is and after listening to 2 chapters, I can't put myself through any more of this drivle. There is zero useful content and it's delivered in a condescending Manor. I wish I had chosen another book. Any book!

Not what I expected it to be

I was hoping that this book will give practical examples to coach and show how things are done. But there is a lot of theory that makes no sense. If you are a beginner and want to learn how to start making your presentations , you need both theoretical guidance and practical examples to understand how to apply the knowledge. But this book of offered nothing of on the practical side, just a lot of hard to understand theory . Did not finished the book.
