Summary

Once, Dan Randolph was one of the richest men on Earth. Now the planet is spiraling into environmental disaster, with floods and earthquakes destroying the lives of millions. Martin Humphries, fabulously wealthy heir of the Humphries Trust, also knows that space-based industry is the way of the future. But unlike Randolph, he does not care if Earth perishes in the process. As Randolph, accompanied by two brilliant women astronauts, flies out to the Asteroid Belt aboard a fusion-propelled spacecraft, Humphries makes his move. The future of mankind lies in Randolph's hands.
Don't miss any of the action on the Asteroid Belt in Ben Bova's The Asteroid Wars.

Critic reviews

"Bova gets better and better, combining plausible science with increasingly complex fiction." ( Los Angeles Daily News)
"Stefan Rudnicki, producer and one of the performers, has picked his readers well....The listener has no difficulty picturing the scenes and character interactions as the book wanders across a landscape divided among an ecologically ravaged Earth, spaceships, the moon, space stations, and a few asteroids out in the Belt." First Asteroid War Novel

Would you listen to The Precipice again? Why?

Maybe.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No.

Any additional comments?

Ben Bova's Grand Tour books are usually very good, though this one is only okay. The story takes quite a while to get going, though when it does it is very good. However the recording has too many narrators which makes listening a little bit confusing.

Why, why change the narrator?

Had to fast forward the female narrator, she was terrible. Her narration was childish and spoke as if she had a permanent grin on her face, very irritating. Male narrators great, but the female spoilt this edition of a great series.
