About this listen

DS George Cross delves deep into the world of dirty politics in this Bristol detective series perfect for fans of Peter James and Joy Ellis.

At first glance, the murder of Peggy Frampton looks like a burglary gone wrong. But DS George Cross, with his meticulous methods, thinks otherwise. The victim, a former mayor of Bristol, is now an online influencer whose forthright opinions attract the kind of attention that most people would like to avoid.

There's no shortage of suspects. Cross's investigation will lead him from Peggy's unfaithful husband to her gambling-addicted son, to a scorned former lover with a grudge. But she also has political enemies in her past.

Cross will have to navigate a dark maze of seedy connections to find the truth–but can he do it before the killer strikes again?

The Politician is a part of the DS George Cross thriller series, which can be read in any order.

A great book and audiobook

Whilst I really enjoyed the book, I felt that it was a little weaker than the previous releases. I think that the plot became a little too convoluted towards the end and became more of an intellectual exercise than a detective story.
The characters remained strong and George Cross himself was as irascible and sharp as ever.

Another excellent story in the series. Tim Sullivan’s character development, especially in relation to George, is a joy and George’s final words in this book brought a tear to my eye. Suspend your disbelief that the police service, or most employers, would employ George and prepare to look at the world from a different view; you won’t regret it, even though you might cringe at George’s social ineptitude at times. My only criticism is the narrator who appears unable to pronounce the word ‘burglary’ among others. At first I thought it was just one of the characters mispronouncing the word as ‘burgulry’ but it wasn’t because the word is mispronounced by every single character and it really grates after a while. Keep them coming Tim.

Very touching final scene

Having listened to the outstanding narration by Hefferman in the three first books, I’m sorry to say I find the narrator replacing him for the rest of the series considerably less agreeable to listen to. The book, though, is just so interesting and well written that one tolerates the robotic read without much suffering,

Excellent story. Narration not that excellent

Think the narrator was different in this one and took me a while to get used to him. However the best plot by far lots of twists and sub plots and red herrings - loved it - already onto the next in series

The best DS Cross yet
