Özet

FROM THE #1 BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF THE HARRY BOSCH AND LINCOLN LAWYER SERIES

An electrifying standalone thriller that breaks all the rules!

Death is reporter Jack McEvoy's beat: his calling, his obsession. But this time, death brings McEvoy the story he never wanted to write - and the mystery he desperately needs to solve. A serial killer of unprecedented savagery and cunning is at large. His targets: homicide cops, each haunted by a murder case he couldn't crack. The killer's calling card: a quotation from the works of Edgar Allan Poe. His latest victim is McEvoy's own brother. And his last...may be McEvoy himself.

Another cracking story from Michael Connelly which kept me listening even whilst shopping in the supermarket which meant I forgot most of the things I went in for! Narration was excellent too and added to the plot well.

Michael Connelly never disappoints

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed this book but I have to admit the explanations of how you can fax from a computer and how a digital camera works had me laughing out loud. Did we really ever live without Google? So yes it's a bit dated but still a good story with the usual twists and turns. If you can get it in a sale (as I did) it's worth a listen.

Flashback to a different time. 1996.

I've read/listened to all of the Harry Bosch books, but only recently became aware of the Jack McEvoy series. The Poet is the first in the series. I'm only about a third of the way through, but I'm enjoying it so far. As other reviewers have mentioned it is a bit dated, having been written in 1996. Still, it's Michael Connelly, always worth the time. One thing I've noticed is, despite the excellent narration, the quality of the audio recording, at least through my iPhone, is rather poor. It sounds like he is recording in a cave. Perhaps this is because it is old and the equipment wasn't so great back then.

A bit dated now, but still worth a read.

Although to start with I struggled with the narrators voice, after the first ten minutes, the story gripped me and I became used to it. The story itself is fast paced and has an unexpected ending. One of the best books I have listened to so far

Excellent throughout

I have gone through all the Harry Bosch stories and even listened to a few again, so I decided to try out The Poet. Brilliant story, really gripping and the narrator told it with ease. I can't wait to listen to the next one in the series :-)

Just re-read this review after considering my reviews of books 2 & 3, a health warning, books 2 & 3 are on a steep downhill run, this is by far the best of them.

Brilliant Story
