Summary

The mysterious sixth entry in the Hangman's Daughter series.

It is 1670 and Simon Fronwieser is in the town of Oberammergau to bring his seven-year-old son to boarding school. As he bids his boy a tearful farewell, news comes of a shocking murder: the man who was to play the part of Christ in the town's Passion play has been found dead, nailed to the set's cross. As there is no doctor in town, Simon is brought in to examine the body. The opportunities to spend more time with his son and to investigate the murder quickly convince him to stay.

Soon he is joined by his father-in-law, Jakob Kuisl, the Schongau hangman, and the two begin piecing together the puzzle of the actor's death. Was he murdered by a jealous rival? Are the recently arrived and unpopular immigrant workers somehow involved? Or is it a punishment from God for the villagers' arrogance in trying to schedule the play four years earlier than prescribed by ancient custom? Once again it looks like it is up to the Kuisls to unravel the mystery and bring a town's dark secrets to light.

Wonderfully addictive

I feel like Potzsch is writing just for me! The historical detail, riveting cliffhangers and developing characters keep me coming back. I just can’t get enough of the Kuisls!

Written With Great Love.

This series is lovely, that's the best thing I can say about it. I expect I'm not the only reader who yearns to visit the Bavarian Alps, as a result of it.

OP's heart and humanity are on every page and that cheers me up no end.

Brit listeners (including me) need to remember that the series has been translated by an American, therefore it is written in American. Annoying 'erbs and all. I'm certain that the US audience is far larger than the UK audience, so whining about it is very petty.

GG is a warm and richly talented narrator.

Another great book

Once again, this author has provided a captivating story that I could not wait to get back to every time I had put it down. Now I am eager to start the next one in the series.

Kuisl Clan Kick Serious Can

This series keeps getting better and better!! Jakob and the family are back, and they all have work to do... Nice historical context and vivid settings to go along w/ a couple three delicious mysteries... Love how the younger family members get brought into this one, and make it an entire family affair... Great pace, characters, and twists... Funny how much things change the more they stay the same;). Excellent performance, and the total product is something any fan of historical mystery fiction will enjoy...

Best series for mystery and history lovers!

The sixth book in the hangman's daughter series is just as excellent as the first five books. Oliver Potzsch blends history with mystery perfectly. The best I've ever read. I especially love how the characters come to life with issues that are timeless. They have marital problems like can be seen today. The situations and dialogues contain the right amount of humor and wit. I hope he will continue to write books in this series!

A great series

I have enjoyed each book in this series, and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys historical mysteries. I do not care for the romance That drives so many historical novels today. This series is driven by the characters lives and the world in which they live.

Excellent

Again not disappointed. This was a very well written book. I love how the Hangman's family is always getting into so many troubles. They have a way of solving problems that most people in that time were lucky to even read.
