About this listen

The Pickwick Papers, Dickens's first novel, is a delightful romp through the pre-Reform Bill England of 1827. Samuel Pickwick and the rest of the Pickwickians are some of the most memorable of all Dickens's creations, and it is a joy to hear of their adventures in search of "interesting scenes and characters", and the repeated efforts of the quick-witted Sam Weller to rescue them all from disaster.

Dickens! What a master. So much to enjoy here and the reading is perfection with such a range of character and voices.

An incredible rendition of the great story. It was a shame that it ended. Brilliant.

Very different in some ways from Dickens' other fine works with its extremely amusing stories and characterisation. It is read very well and I am more than happy to recommend this as a little light relief from some of his other works.

Well read, full of characters and very amusing.

Read this first as an undergraduate in 1970s and recalled its charm when joining the Audible community recently. Seemed a perfect book to listen to a ill-health has made reading texts more demanding.

I have enjoyed the wonderful Dickensian narrative gifts in audio. The medium is so well suited to oral delivery. This narration enlivened the plot and delivered believable characterisation. I was engaged throughout, on otherwise sleepless nights..

Charming and endearing
