Story
A compelling story of friendship from the top author in Amish fiction, Leona Speicher got the "sister" she'd always dreamed of the day Gloria Gingerich and her family moved to Lancaster County Amish farmland. The Arkansas newcomers seem to be everything a devout Plain family should be, and Leona can't help comparing Gloria's engaging young parents to her own. Leona's cousin shows a romantic interest in Gloria around the same time as Gloria's older brother expresses his fondness for Leona.

Story
In the summer of 1951, 18-year-old Maggie Esh is in need of some hope. Sweet-spirited and uncommonly pretty despite struggling with a debilitating illness, she is accustomed to being treated kindly by the young men of her Old Order Amish church district. Yet no one but Jimmy Beiler ever asks her out, and she always declines, certain he only pities her. To make matters worse, Dat has recently remarried, less than a year after Maggie's mother died. And while her stepmother is kind, she's much younger than Mamm, and she simply doesn't understand Maggie or her illness the way Mamm did.

Story
Anna is eager to begin a new chapter in her life as a Lancaster County tour guide in the picturesque area where her Plain grandmother once stayed. Anna wishes she could talk with her grandmother about those long-ago days, but the elderly woman suffers from Alzheimer's, and beyond a vague hint about an old stone wall, much about that time is a mystery. Thankfully, Martin Nolt, a handsome Mennonite, takes the young Beachy Amish woman under his wing for her training, familiarizing her with local highlights, including Peaceful Meadows Horse Retreat, for children with special needs.

Story
Abram Ebersol and wife, Ida, are raising their four daughters on a firm foundation of Plain traditions, and he expects the girls to carry on that heritage into the future, safe and secure in their cloistered Lancaster County community. But Sadie, the oldest daughter, has found little appeal in her Amish life compared to the lure of the "English" world surrounding them.
Summary
Eva Esch and her sisters are in a predicament. With the passing of their widowed mother, Eva's older brother plans to move his growing family into the Eden Valley farmhouse where they all grew up, leaving little room for his three single sisters. Unless they marry within the year, the only apparent option is for two sisters to go to Indiana to live with an elderly great-aunt. Eva hopes to be married, but she isn't sure she wants to give up her sweet shop for the life of a farmer's wife. And she can't see how her prospects would be any better in Indiana.
When younger sister Lily disappears in the night, leaving only a brief note, Eva fears she has been wooed away from the People by an outsider. And when Jed Stutzman, a young Amish buggy maker from Ohio, shows up at Eva's market stand in Lancaster with a photo of a Plain young woman, Eva's world begins to tilt. She feels powerfully drawn to the quietly charming stranger - but the woman in the forbidden photograph is no stranger at all....

Photo tells a story
The Photograph LP Beverly Lewis
I read the book as well as listened. Reading the book held my interest better than listening.
After the deaths of her parents, Lily Esch runs away with her English boyfriend. This causes more pain and grieving for her family. She takes a self-picture of herself, which is forbidden by the People. She loses the picture in a book on the train. Enter Jed from Ohio (on way to Lancaster Co. to fulfill an apprenticeship) who thinks he has met the girl in the photograph (found book on train). Upon finding out that the photo is actually a runaway, Jeb decides to initiate search in Ohio.

Delightfully Sweet Story
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
It's a heartwarming read. It's done well. The characters are intelligent and the plot is developed. The details of the Amish life they lead are very interesting also. This was a pleasant stress buster for me.
