Summary

A malicious spectre haunts the Parisian Opera house. This murderous fiend speaks through walls, abducts innocents through mirrors, and holds the opera management in a cruel state of hostage. But when this monster falls for the beautiful Christine Daae, his powers of attractive enticement and malevolent mayhem all come to the surface. Who can put an end to this reign of terror? Discover the wonders of Gaston Leroux's gothic thriller in a way that will tantalize the senses. The actual unabridged novel is by far the best way to experience the story of the haunting yet humanistic Phantom of the Opera.

AMAZING

I now understand why Andrew Lloyd Webber devoted his life's work to bringing this to the stage. It is SO theatrical!

The musical is a nice adaption of the book, but is still by far behind it!

I bought this particular reading, because I listened to BJ narrate "The Count Of Monte Cristo" I have to say he does just as well of job at it. I love how into it he gets, it's as if he were actually there.

An Unexpected Pleasure!

I have seen most of the movie versions, and was fascinated with this story as a kid. Saw the broadway musical and was probably the only person who didn't love it. Recently found this version and translation after searching and testing all the others. So many choices! Was blown away by finally hearing it read. This is truly a classic novel and suspenseful story telling. I now understand why it has become the source of so many adaptations. None of them doing this little masterpiece justice. A total unexpected pleasure read by a master reader who slowly takes you to the depth and unravels the mysteries that lie hidden within. Savor this little gem every moment you listen.

Great book & wonderful narration

This is my favorite book for so many reasons, and I am consequently picky regarding an its narrating. Mr. Harrison, the narrator, could hardly have been closer to perfect. Unreservedly recommend this narration of this excellent book.

Brilliant performance of Gaston Leroux's timeless tale. Many character voices. All hail Don Juan, Triumphant!

The narrator was changed

I don’t know how this happened to a book already in my library, but the narrator is different. I strongly dislike the new one.

I had a hard time with this.

I was expecting to be more engaged with this well known stage play, but I really struggled to finish it.

Good listen

It was very good, but surprisingly anticlimactic for someone who started with adaptations like the silent film. Best disregard that going in where the ending is concerned. As for the narrator, he did a pretty good job, but he didn't always keep up the voice of the person who was supposed to be narrating various sections. Still, definitely recommend this.
