Story
The benefits of restrictive diets like paleo and keto have been touted for more than a decade, but as renowned gastroenterologist Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, or "Dr. B", illuminates in this groundbreaking audiobook, the explosion of studies on the microbiome makes it abundantly clear that elimination diets are in fact hazardous to our health. What studies clearly now show - and what Dr. B preaches with his patients - is that gut health is the key to boosting our metabolism, balancing our hormones, and taming the inflammation that causes a host of diseases.

In the end, it's not what happens to us that matters most - it's what we choose to do with it. We all face suffering - sadness, loss, despair, fear, anxiety, failure. But we also have a choice; to give in and give up in the face of trauma or difficulties or to live every moment as a gift. Celebrated therapist and Holocaust survivor Dr Edith Eger provides a hands-on guide that gently encourages us to change the imprisoning thoughts and destructive behaviours that may be holding us back.

Story
For decades, the medical community has looked to a variety of reasons for why we age, and the consensus is that no-one dies of old age; they die of age-related diseases. That's because ageing is not a disease - it is inevitable. But what if everything you think you know about ageing is wrong? What if ageing is a disease? And that disease is curable. In Lifespan, Dr David Sinclair, one of the world’s foremost authorities on genetics and ageing, argues just that.

Summary
Twelve-time New York Times best-selling author Mark Hyman, MD, presents his unique Pegan diet - including meal plans, recipes, and shopping lists.
For decades, the diet wars have pitted advocates for the low-carb, high-fat paleo diet against advocates of the exclusively plant-based vegan diet and dozens of other diets leaving most of us bewildered and confused. For those of us on the sidelines, trying to figure out which approach is best has been nearly impossible - both extreme diets have unique benefits and drawbacks. But how can it be, we've asked desperately, that our only options are bacon and butter three times a day or endless kale salads? How do we eat to reverse disease, for optimal health, longevity, and performance. How do we eat to reverse climate change? There must be a better way!
Fortunately, there is. With The Pegan Diet's food-is-medicine approach, Mark Hyman explains how to take the best aspects of the paleo diet (good fats, limited refined carbs, limited sugar) and combine them with the vegan diet (lots and lots of fresh, healthy veggies) to create a delicious diet that is not only good for your brain and your body, but also good for the planet.
Featuring 30 recipes and plenty of infographics illustrating the concepts, The Pegan Diet offers a balanced and easy-to-follow approach to eating that will help you get, and stay, fit, healthy, focused, and happy - for life.

Right on the "Mark"
I was surprised that this was a 5 hour audio book, but this is 5 hours of the latest research by an incredibly knowledgeable and articulate doctor that couldn't have given us that much great information in less time. He is passionate about good health information as I am also, after losing my mother, a brother, and 2 wives to cancer.
Most of our doctors were educated 20 years ago by doctors who were educated 20 years even earlier. By now their knowledge is so dated that they're often giving us bad advice. Our society is getting sicker every year under their watch.
I am looking forward to the day when functional 2021 (food and lifestyle medicine) replaces the failure we know as sick care and drugs. If we are not lifetime learners we will die because we don't know how to remain healthy. I was already doing most of the things that Dr. Hyman suggests, but now I feel that my health knowledge is Feb. 2021 up to date. Thanks, Dr. Hyman.

Was once a vegan...
For the last four years I ate a vegan diet. However, about 1.5 years ago I felt I needed to change. About a month ago I slowly incorporated meat into my diet again. The choice was difficult and one that I ruminated on for over a year, however, I feel better in ways I didn’t know possible. Only, I want to make sure that the food I’m putting into my body is both good for myself and the planet. This book does a great job of laying out everything someone would need to know... regardless of their food lifestyle choices. ** If you are vegan, there’s a whole chapter just for you! Plus, there are helpful tips in the other chapters than can be applied to a vegan lifestyle as well. Thought this was a very informative and helpful book.
