Summary

The international best seller.

Crossing generations, society's boundaries and international turmoil, The Paris Seamstress is a beguiling, transporting story perfect for fans of Lucinda Riley, Kate Furnivall and Penny Vincenzi.

What must Estella sacrifice to make her mark?

1940: Parisian seamstress Estella Bissette is forced to flee France as the Germans advance. She is bound for Manhattan with a few francs, one suitcase, her sewing machine and a dream: to have her own atelier.

2015: Australian curator Fabienne Bissette journeys to the annual Met Gala for an exhibition of her beloved grandmother's work - one of the world's leading designers of ready-to-wear. But as Fabienne learns more about her grandmother's past, she uncovers a story of tragedy, heartbreak and secrets - and the sacrifices made for love.

A beautiful story, brilliantly woven through time & hearts.

Excellent character development. An enveloping storyline beautifully delivered by the narrator. This is a world I've thoroughly enjoyed submerging myself in.

This is an amazing book. It locks you in to the time and places as you read/listen. Taking you into the history of the characters. Brilliantly descriptive and wonderfully read. Thank you.

Reminded me why I don’t like novels, particularly romances

The narration was great and as a sewer I really enjoyed the references to fabric, style and fashion history, this is what attracted me to the book.
But oh my goodness...were these characters annoying, unlikeable and unbelievable. I also found the story very, very slow and sooo predictable...zzzzz. I gave up 3/4 of the way through and won’t be trying any other similar books.
I did not often read or listen to novels, and never romantic fiction, so my experience of this genre is non-existent, this may be a great book in comparison to others of the same genre. It reminded me why I’ve steered clear in the past.
