About this listen

Kate used to be good at recognising people. So good, she worked for the police, identifying criminals in crowds of thousands. But six months ago, a devastating car accident led to a brain injury. Now the woman who never forgot a face can barely recognise herself in the mirror.

At least she has Rob. Young, rich, handsome and successful, Rob runs a tech company on the idyllic Cornish coast. Kate met him just after her accident, and he nursed her back to health. When she's with him, in his luxury modernist house, the nightmares of the accident fade, and she feels safe and loved.

Until one day, she looks at Rob anew. And she knows, with absolute certainty, that the man before her has been replaced by an impostor. Is Rob who he says he is? Or is it all in Kate's damaged mind?

I really didn't know which way this book was going to go even when I got close to the end. I was so engrossed that I willingly suspended disbelief as things got darker.

The narrator was good, the only faults were a few rather odd pronunciations, but nothing to put me off listening.

I can't wait to try another by the same author.

Great to listen to. Narrated brilliantly. Captivating story, makes you impatient to find out what's going to happen next.

Held me enthralled. If you sit in the car to wait for the end of the chapter and have to make yourself stop to go shopping ( which I did) I reckon it is a good book.
Great plot which I didn’t see the answer to. Particularly the final twist.
Good narration.

Gripping and intriguing.

One of the best books I’ve listened to in quite a while. So many twists and turns and every time I thought I’d guessed what was going on, it turned out I was wrong and there were yet more surprises in store. A very clever plot and effortlessly narrated by Eilidh Beaton who deserves applause for her performance.

I liked the idea. I see what the author tried to do and for the most part I enjoyed the ride...up until the end. When all is revealed and questions answered it was just laughable. Absolutely ridiculous. And they had to explain everything to wrap up the story. As if the author just got tired and decided to quit. Probably a good idea. I think people will enjoy the book though. It really did hold my attention. The narrator was annoying with all the unnecessary long pauses. Even listening to the audio at 2x speed didn't help.
