Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The deliciously creepy Sunday Times best seller from the author of The Chalk Man.

Driving home one night, Gabe sees the face of a little girl he knows in the rear window of the car in front.

She mouths one word - 'Daddy'. It's his five-year old daughter, Izzy.

He never sees her again.

The police believe she's dead. But three years later, Gabe still drives the roads, searching for the car that took Izzy, never giving up hope....

Meanwhile Fran and her daughter, Alice, aren't searching - but running.

Always one step ahead of the people who want to hurt them.

Because Fran knows the truth about Gabe's daughter.

And she knows what the people chasing her will do if they ever catch them....

Read this story rather than listening to it.

This is the second book in a row where the narration has spoilt my enjoyment.
Richard Armitage was nuanced and brilliant however the uncredited Elly Kendrick was annoyingly breathy and lisping. Really poor.
The book itself was a curiosity. Convoluted, twisty plot that had an air of the supernatural, as in Tudor’s previous books, and again with a very Stephen King feel.
But it felt clinical and cold.
Repeated imagery of never-ending motorways, neon service stations, desolate beaches and stark hospital rooms seemed designed for cinema rather than a novel.
The overall premise was great and the storyline was neatly plotted but it wasn’t immersive.
A rather generous 4 stars as, despite only superficial similarities, it was unfortunate that this book came out so soon after The Chain.

Really gripping story

I will listen to anything read by Richard Armitage- his story telling is fantastic. I love how he uses his voice to engage the reader and create believable characters ! More from the narrator please!

Love Richard Armitage’s voice, he is so good as a narration, clearly spoken and his character voice are superb. Very enjoyable story, had me hooked. Spine chillingly good.

well worth a credit

The core story is about a man, Gabe, who makes a youthful mistake and ends up paying for it all his life. There is also a supernatural element, and a shadowy revenge organisation that lurks on the dark web. It all adds up to an original story, and well narrated too. There are no twists as such, but some surprises in the story, and the pace cracks along and keeps interest well.
There is a bonus 40 mins short story at the end which was appreciated. I am liking this relatively new author more and more, she avoids cliches and twists for the sake of them and is definitely finding a writer’s voice unique to her.
definitely worth a credit and thank you.

Slow to get into but worth persevering!

Interesting concept and great story marred only by one inexplicable event near the end of the book - don’t worry it’s not a spoiler. Otherwise it would hv been 5 stars.

Well worth a credit.
