Summary

When Evie’s dreams come crashing down, she’s determined to still make something of herself in these trying times....

It is 1939, and working-class Evie Bishop has received a scholarship to study mathematics at Oxford when tragedy turns her life upside down. Evie must seek a new future for herself and, inspired to contribute to the war effort, joins the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force as an Ops Room plotter.

Posted to a fighter station on the Sussex Coast, Evie befriends two other WAAFs - shy, awkward May and flirty, glamorous Jess. Faced with earning the approval of strict officers and finding their way in a male-dominated world, the three girls band together to overcome challenges, navigate new romances and keep their pilots safe in the skies.

But the German bombers seem to know more than they should about the base’s operations, and soon Evie, May and Jess are caught up in a world more dangerous than they ever imagined.

An interesting and well researched book. Plenty of drama all the while knowing there would be a happy ending. Very enjoyable.

Gripping, informative of the ops room in the Second World War

A thoroughly enjoyable novel with excitement, drama and wartime romance, showing how difficult it was for women to succeed in a mans world. I didn’t want to stop listening and was disappointed when it finished.

Realistic and well-researched

I usually see one of two types of historical drama in a romance: one that’s heavy on the romance and light on accurate historical research and believability; and one that’s well-researched and believable but dry in the emotional narrative. This one threads that needle nicely in a good balance between the two. Also a good cast of likable, true-to-life characters and effective sustaining of tension keeps the story moving along. Really enjoyed it!

Fantastic WW2 Homefront Fiction

I loved this audible book! I'm so happy to see that it is the 1st in a series. Hopefully the next book will come out on audible soon.

If you enjoy stories about the homefront during WW2. you will want to read this book. The characters we easy to love and there was quite a bit of suspense mixed in with friendship and romance.
