Summary

Jessie Murphy is released from prison with the intention of escaping her past. Homeless and alone, her plans to dodge karma’s spite seem like nothing more than wishful thoughts until a shot of Wild Turkey turns things around.

She ends up lost in the wilderness of passion that is Bard. A drunk and a hermit, he is no stranger to wandering souls, and Jessie tries desperately not to get drawn into his mystery and allure.

But her dark past backs her into a corner, leaving her with nobody else to trust.

She fights to keep herself safe, hiding from and confronting old shadows, but with Bard by her side, the danger seems much closer.

Who is she really protecting herself from?

Wow wow wow

This is an absolutely great book . Much more depth to each character than I expected. This made the story more realistic and emotional.

Definitely worth the trouble

I started reading this book on a different platform, when I found that I wouldn’t be able to finish I there. Luckily, I was able to finish the story (which had ended on a pretty major cliffhanger) on audible. While I have always struggled with audiobooks, I didn’t have any trouble here, as the story and writing was so enticing and compelling that I had no choice but be engaged the whole way through. I found listening to it as much as possible to finish it ASAP, I was enjoying it so much.
Jessie’s character arc is so satisfying and well earned as is any moment of her happiness. Bard is great — if flawed — leading man, with just the right amount of roughness to him.
While there are moments that made me want to throw my phone at a wall (in the best way possible, and all mainly because of Drake), every moment of anguish was worth it to read — or rather head — the story of Jessie overcoming and outgrowing her past.
A super fun and heartwarming romance, which I have already recommended to my friends!

Exciting-Exhilarating

This book was exciting from the beginning. Jessie has lived a hard life. At a young age she fell in love with an older man named Drake. She soon found out he wasn’t who she thought he was. After spending time in prison she finally has a chance to get away and hide from him when she is released. She meets some wonderful people. Then there is Bard. He wants to keep her safe and protect her. He says he loves her. Drake does come looking for her.
This is the second book I have listened to written by Wendy Cole. I truly can’t wait for more. The narrator Janet Aldrich was fantastic. She pulls you right into the story.

A little Gem

I really enjoyed this book, it was really well narrated and the narrator really complimented Jessie and her character. I really enjoyed the story and the progression through the book. I also really loved how there was an ‘untold story’ running alongside the main story. I would really like to hear about Jessie previous life. Some great detail mixed with some steamy and hair raising moments! I didn’t want it to end

I would high recommend this to anyone!
