About this listen

SOME CRIMES LIGHT A FIRE THAT NEVER GOES OUT...

A JUDGE MURDERED IN A CITY PARK

Mickey Haller, the Lincoln Lawyer, defends the man accused.

A HOMELESS PERSON BURNED ALIVE

Detective Renée Ballard catches the case on the LAPD's notorious graveyard shift.

AN UNSOLVED HOMICIDE FROM A LIFETIME AGO

Harry Bosch is left a missing case file by his mentor who passed away. He was the man who taught Bosch that everybody counts, or nobody counts. Why did he keep the case all these years? To find the truth - or bury it?

IN L.A. CRIME NEVER SLEEPS

But in Ballard, Bosch and Haller: the fire always burns. Will it light the way - or leave their lives in ashes?

CRIME DOESN'T COME BETTER THAN CONNELLY.

As always with Connelly the plotting is right, characters consistent and with their own voices and stories that don't telegraph. They're what unputdownable reads like. Today was a write-off. Downloaded it at breakfast, finished it at 10 in my pyjamas.

Swiss watch plotting

I like to say that Bosch books are built like a BMW - economical, sturdy prose with real torque which powers the protagonist through the cases, and keeps the reader holding on for dear life. I've been waiting for The Night Fire for nigh on 9 months, and true to form, I finished it in a single weekend. Bosch and Ballard are now in cruise control as a team, as are Titus Welliver and Christine Lakin as highly badass narrators. Connelly has a mastery over characters, of capturing human interaction in myriad ways, and the way in which the detectives use people and detect clues is truly a joy to follow. I am so happy that Bosch is still going strong, albeit with a new knee and cane, but as he said to his daughter in The Night Fire, 'Hey I'm gonna be around for a while.' All I can say is, hurry up with the next edition!!

To produce yet another work such of calibre bespeaks a talented author indeed. The narrative performances were exceptional too as I expected. I would like to think there will be many future outings for this team of author and actors.

Can't get enough of the Bosch and Ballard stories, I wish Michael would write one a month. Narration is top notch.

Outstanding performance of a brilliant book.I wish I had the words to do this audiobook justice, but whatever I say feels inadequate.
I’m a huge HB fan, I’m a cop in a completely different country yet somehow the writing identifies and portrays the types of personalities that you find in law enforcement.
Some of the conflicting attitudes, arrogance, determination and disinterest described are completely universal, yet somehow entirely unique to Harry and his partners.

Listen to this book, I’m sure you won’t disagree.

Raising the bar.

This is the best so far of Connelly's teaming of the experienced but ageing Bosch with the younger, determined but sensitive Ballard. They're working on a number of cases that prove to be connected in unexpected ways. Connelly's brilliance is in building the relationship between these two characters. This is so authentic in a professional situation: male/female that is not romantic but sensitive, mutual respect and trust.

Great story. Authentic characters. Superb performance.

Listening to Titus read Bosh is a real touch it’s like slipping into a warm bath when your muscles ache - sometimes brutal but feels so good at the same time

Connelly proving he’s the best
