Critic reviews

The Night Fire is further proof of Connelly's undimmed creativity. Juggling a characteristically crowded storyline, Connelly demonstrates once again why he is held in such esteem
Taut cop thriller
Advanced and interwoven with characteristic meticulous craft
Michael Connelly is the greatest American crime writer of his generation. The tension builds from the first page. Past and present collide as three cases ricochet off each other in surprising ways
A cracker of a thriller, packed with surprising twists and turns, and seamlessly bringing together all of Michael Connelly's compelling lead characters, allowing each to shine in their own particular way.
Connelly has few equals as a thriller writer and it speaks volumes for the world he has created for Harry Bosch [...] The Night Fire is masterfully structured and a dizzying array of plot lines dovetail in a hugely enjoyable and satisfying series of finales.
One of the greatest crime writers roars back with a superb story [...] and never once draws breath.
Michael Connelly is at the top of his game in The Night Fire [...] complexity and compassion combine in a humdinger of a thriller.
Hugely enjoyable read.

As always with Connelly the plotting is right, characters consistent and with their own voices and stories that don't telegraph. They're what unputdownable reads like. Today was a write-off. Downloaded it at breakfast, finished it at 10 in my pyjamas.

I like to say that Bosch books are built like a BMW - economical, sturdy prose with real torque which powers the protagonist through the cases, and keeps the reader holding on for dear life. I've been waiting for The Night Fire for nigh on 9 months, and true to form, I finished it in a single weekend. Bosch and Ballard are now in cruise control as a team, as are Titus Welliver and Christine Lakin as highly badass narrators. Connelly has a mastery over characters, of capturing human interaction in myriad ways, and the way in which the detectives use people and detect clues is truly a joy to follow. I am so happy that Bosch is still going strong, albeit with a new knee and cane, but as he said to his daughter in The Night Fire, 'Hey I'm gonna be around for a while.' All I can say is, hurry up with the next edition!!

To produce yet another work such of calibre bespeaks a talented author indeed. The narrative performances were exceptional too as I expected. I would like to think there will be many future outings for this team of author and actors.
