About this listen

Imagine finding out that your unborn child was a lie....

Alisha Barba's dreams of being a detective were shattered when a murder suspect broke her back across a brick wall. Now on her feet again, with her police career in limbo, she receives a message from an old school friend, Cate Beaumont, who is eight months pregnant and in trouble.

On the night they arrange to meet, Cate is mown down by a car that kills her husband instantly. As paramedics fight to save her life they discover there is no baby. Her pregnancy is an elaborate lie, a cruel deception.

Why? What happened? As Alisha sets out to answer these questions, she is drawn deeper and deeper into a dangerous quest that will take her from the East End of London to Amsterdam's red light district and into a murky underworld of sex trafficking, slavery and exploitation.

A gripping thriller, with twists at every turn, The Night Ferry is Michael Robotham's finest novel yet.

This was an interesting idea for a story and it kept my interest although, at times, I had to remind myself of some of the characters.
At times it was a little implausible but still an enjoyable listen.

A few good twists

Plenty of twists in the tale with an interesting look into people smuggling and underground networks.

Thought provoking insight into people trafficking

Excellent story, I loved the whole lot. But it is by my favourite author. His story’s and characters are so diverse.

Loved it.

The start was promising but it went off in a ridiculously complicated tangent. Couldn’t see why the main character who got involved chasing around everywhere with something that wasn’t really her business. It may have got better but I gave up as I found the plot so boring.

Gave up half way through

I really did enjoy the story, lots of twists and turns, thought I knew where it was going and it would change direction! Kept me on my toes. However, it would have been nice to have had a narrator that has the same background as the main character being voiced, don’t get me wrong she’s a good narrator but it took me out of it. It felt a bit awkward the fact that MR was writing from the point of view of women and missing the facts on several topics. But the story at its base was not bad

Good but not great!
