L.J. Evans does it again and pens another amazing novel, a romantic suspense with some of my favorite romance tropes: small-town, friends-to-lovers, a single dad Navy SEAL and a marriage of convenience, all packaged perfectly together for one exiting story. This is the first book of Evans’ “Swift Rivers” series, a spin-off of her fantastic “Hatley Family” series, and is Fallon and Parker Steele’s story. Fallon played a big part in “The Last Dance You Saved”, the third book of “The Hatley Family” series, which I highly recommend, not only is it an exceptional story, but characters from that book appear in this book and knowing their backstories add more depth. That said, it was great to see Fallon again, all grown up, and we get glimpses into her and Parker’s past pertaining to their friendship, as well as mentions of past events that may or may not link to the suspense portion of the story, all brilliantly written and detailed. Parker is five years older than Fallon, and she always crushed on him, and despite the undeniable chemistry between them, he would never act on it because of promises made, so her friendship had to be enough for him. When he became a SEAL, she chose a college near his base so she could see him when he was not on a mission. Fallon tried to move their relationship further than friendship, but got nowhere, so it was time for her to move on with a guy she met in college, Ace, whom Parker did not like, and let her know, but he had no say after rejecting her. After both have life-changing events in their lives, Parker’s tragic loss of a friend and fellow SEAL member, Will, who made him the guardian of his young son, Theo, and Fallon’s realization that her boyfriend was all wrong for her, they find themselves in each other’s orbit again, at the ranch. Parker never wanted children, but he could not let his friend down or leave Theo in foster care, since he had recently lost his mother too. It was a learning curve for him, but his father suggested going to Swift Rivers to spend time on the ranch with him. There is a lot going on with Fallon and on the ranch, and it was not good, but after opening up to Parker, she has him in her corner, and the two come up with a plan. It was great watching the build-up of their lives and what led them both to the ranch again, and it is then and where all the suspenseful things happen, and whoever was behind it all was clever enough to cover their tracks. Evans delivers another complex, masterfully crafted, multi-layered story, one that captivates your attention, tugs at your heartstrings, and takes you to the edge of your seat. The drama is non-stop, and there is a perfect balance of angst, witty dialogue and banter, heartwarming moments, mystery, thrilling and suspenseful moments, profound emotions, and a slow-burn but so worth the wait romance. As always, the writing, plot, and world-building are incredible, as are the character growth and development. L.J. Evans, thank you for another excellent story and emotional rollercoaster ride, I loved how it all played out and where you to the characters, to where they all belonged.

🎧📚🎧 Emery Erickson and Alex Goodman continue to do an amazing job voicing the characters, bringing them to life naturally and believably. They embody their characters completely, grasping every aspect of their personalities, with Erickson nailing it as Fallon, showcasing her fierceness, strength, and determination. Goodman did the same as Parker and was just as fabulous in his portrayal. Both were fantastic portraying the roles of the side/secondary characters too, Theo included. Their expressive delivery conveys all the characters’ emotions, making you feel each one. Their storytelling is entertaining, and their captivating performance keeps you glued to the story and dialogue the entire time.

Adjusting to fatherhood is not easy while dealing with grief and having to make new life decisions. He was not prepared for the next chapter. When he heard Fallon, the one woman who held his heart, was in trouble though, he did know he had to go and keep her safe. Fallon has taken over her family's resort. This legacy was what she always wanted, so when danger came to the ranch, she didn't know quite how to keep it safe. People relied on her for their living and others for their entertainment. She wasn't going down quietly. With Parker at her side, she was hopeful yet of finding the culprit, yet things were not looking good. But what was happening in the background was all the feels. Evans pulled in a thread of suspense kept the lump in my throat, a passion that is burning and a family destined for happiness. I loved how she started each chapter with a past memory, paving the way for these two. Its a fabulous story, an amazing suspense and a story that is sticking with me!

Emery Erickson and Alex Goodman narrate this story that took me to Swift Rivers! Each scene is filled with the best voices, creating the moods and feelings! Erickson is Fallon, and she finds every facet of her. From her bad relationship to her true love of Parker, she found the underlying emotions and made her feel real. Goodman as Parker is the alpha protector. I love how he deals with his low self esteem at times and works on being a good dad. These two use all the nuances to keep the feelings worming into my heart. Fabulous performance.
