Summary

A wonderfully atmospheric collection of stories from one of our most captivating writers, inspired by ghost stories, traditional folk tales and country legends from England and France.

These tales are richly populated by spirits and ghosts seeking revenge; by grief-stricken women and haunted men coming to terms with their destiny - all rooted deep in the elemental landscapes of Sussex, Brittany and the Languedoc.

The collection will include The Mistletoe Bride, La Fille de Melisande, Red Letter Day, The Lending Library, The House on the Hill

Stories read by Simon Russell Beale and Sian Thomas and author's notes and introductions read by Kate Mosse.

Beautiful collection

This is a lovely collection of short stories with haunting themes not, I'm glad to say of the haunting variety, but more mysterious. All of them were beautifully written and well read.

Wonderful book I loved listening to it.

Where does The Mistletoe Bride and Other Haunting Tales rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I have loved reading everyone of Kate Mosse's books but this was the first book I listened too and for me it was one of the best.

What other book might you compare The Mistletoe Bride and Other Haunting Tales to, and why?

The Winter Ghost

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

The tone and quality of her voice.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When the lady was found behind the secret opening in the wall by the maid.

Any additional comments?

Please Kate can we have another book of short stories very soon.

Great read, keeps you wanting more.

Where does The Mistletoe Bride and Other Haunting Tales rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I really enjoyed these stories, coming from many countries you really hear quite a few different tales. This rates quite highly in my listening experience.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Mistletoe Bride and Other Haunting Tales?

The Mistletoe Bride story was new to me, I really enjoyed it and it does make you think.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

I did like the story of the man having a car accident and the subsequent story once he had picked up the injured party.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Now you didn't expect that did you.

Any additional comments?

Kate Mosse certainly does know how to tell a tale, on the strength of her Labyrinth books I've just visited Carcassonne and could see how it inspires her. I did feel I knew the area and some of these tales could have been written about the area. Well worth frequent listens.

Refreshing

I really enjoyed most of these stories and found them quite enthralling, one or two were a bit uneventful and similar to other stories but most very original and intriguing.
I have never read anything by Kate Mosse before but this has made me want to read some of her other books.

Mystical, atmospheric, perfect for Christmas...

...but ..... I've removed one star for the author's notes delivered after each story, which more than slightly spoiled the atmosphere created by each of these very well written and well delivered stories. If there was any way these could be optional, e.g. together as a chapter at the beginning or right at the end?

Excellent

Beautiful, haunting tales written by the formidable Kate Mosse.
I really enjoyed the author’s notes at the end of each story, I don’t feel like they took away from the overall atmosphere at all. I loved hearing what influenced each tale, and as they come after the stories, there are no spoilers.
I hope there will be another Audible book of short stories from her, I’ve really enjoyed listening to them.
