About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

The electrifying sequel to the bestselling, critically acclaimed, page-turning thriller, The Upper World, soon to be a major movie starring Academy Award Winner Daniel Kaluuya.

With her mentor, Dr Esso, by her side, Peckham born and bred Rhia is beginning her first week at the University of Oxford. She’s determined to have a fresh start and put the Upper World behind her. But fitting into the hallowed halls of Oxford proves more difficult than she thought when she struggles to find her people.

That’s until Rhia receives a mysterious invite under her door to a secret and exclusive society called the Ravens. The Ravens are part of the 1% and being a member of the cult-like group guarantees students a life of wealth and success. But is Rhia really willing to sell out to secure her future?

And, more pressingly, with increasingly strange goings-on happening around her, could joining the group mean opening Pandora’s box – and uncovering something even more mind-bending than the Upper World? Rhia is about to find out . . .

PRAISE FOR THE UPPER WORLD:

An interesting and thought provoking book, that’s very easy to listen to. The writer creates really good characters (I was counting down the days to this second book to be released). The narrator is perfect too (for me, anyway). The only thing that is strange, and quite off-putting, is the random musical interludes that don’t seem to have any purpose. Other than that, a good listen.

Great narrator

I really thought this book was building toward something, but the ending felt quite anticlimactic. It started off as a slow burn, which I was fine with, but then the conclusion felt rushed and unsatisfying. All that buildup, and then it just… fizzled out. There were a lot of gaps in the story, and it raised more questions than it answered. It almost feels like a middle book in a series. Is there a sequel?
