Summary

In this beautifully written book, Buddhist monk and Nobel Peace Prize nominee Thich Nhat Hanh explains how to acquire the skills of mindfulness. Once we have these skills, we can slow our lives down and discover how to live in the moment - even simple acts like washing the dishes or drinking a cup of tea may be transformed into acts of meditation.

Thich Nhat Hanh's gentle anecdotes and practical exercises help us to arrive at greater self-understanding and peacefulness, whether we are beginners or advanced students. Irrespective of our particular religious beliefs, we can begin to reap the immense benefits that meditation has been scientifically proven to offer. We can all learn how to be mindful and experience the miracle of mindfulness for ourselves.

Timeless Wisdom

Gentle but insistent, Thay imparts his timeless wisdom. Big ideas in simple language, beautifully voiced by John Sackville, this is an audio book that I will listen to again and again.

Starts off great...

Starts off great and easy going, easy to follow. As it goes on.. it just goes on... I understand what it’s about and what the message is. But towards the end it just doesn’t seem to be as focused as it was towards the start.

Enjoyed this but not my favourite Mindfulness book

I enjoyed this and think Thich Nhat Hanh is wonderful however i found myself getting a bit bored listening to the last couple hours of this audio book. There are some brilliant gems and inspiring nuggets within but in my opinion the presentation of this book is a bit lacklustre when compared to books like Eckhart Tolle’s The Power Of Now and A New Earth.

Not what I thought!

This may suit someone with greater experience in mindfulness, I thought this was for beginners but I found it boring and repetitive. The introduction seemed never to end. Don't mean to be over critical, I am sure it is an important book for those at the correct level.

Boring and unfathomable

The content in this is pants the last hour of the book I’ve had to stop listening to as it’s just clap trap and I don’t understand any of it. I don’t know if you have to have some understanding of the religion to get it.

Confusing

This is the first ever book i read about mindfulness and it was very confusing. It also feels more of a story told by one of the author’s followers than by for himself.

Worth it for the first few chapters

The first third to half of the book is really good. I am a beginner and found
Lots of great advice and techniques for being mindful in day to day life. But the second half of the book I skipped through. It was disjointed and repetitive with little practical advice. But I would still recommend it as those first chapters are excellent
