Summary

Precious Ramotswe, traditionally built owner of the No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency, feels that her tiny white van, which has carried her about her business with such steadfastness and reliability, should be replaced by a more modern vehicle. Precious's usually loyal husband, the wonderful Mr J. L. B. Matekoni, takes a different view.

Alongside day-to-day matters - such as Mma Makutsi's dowry negotiations - there are more difficult problems for Mma Ramotswe to solve. A client, who was adopted, asks her to trace her biological family. But will Mma Ramotswe's searches bring happiness or something rather different, something rather frightening?

Wonderful to listen to

Adjoa Andoh's reading of this novel is masterful...warm, interesting and with a wonderfully authentic Botswana accent, brilliantly different for each character. I wish she had read all the No. 1 Ladies Detective novels - I would purchase them all immediately.
If you would like to hear a melodious, amusing and just plain fantastically read book, then look no further.

AMcS does it again

Another sweet and amusing addition to the series. Good to see the characters developing. These are great for the car, as not much concentration is required. The world of Mma Ramotswe and co leaves the grimy commute far away as you waft to work on a cloud of happiness.

Adjoa’s narration is a pleasure to listen to

I m binge-listening the series and am really enjoying the books.!

I do find there are parts in each book where McCall Smith is clearly just trying to bulk up the word count... the obligatory passages about how Mma Ramotswe loves her county, about how her father was a good man etc etc etc but I do really like the books, and the narration is a joy to listen to - the different voices and accents are first rate
