Summary

Caderyn is the sexiest - and perhaps craziest - man Bridget has ever laid eyes on. He may have rescued her from death, but who's going to rescue her from him? With all the right moves, the man is a walking seduction that's too hard to resist. Sparks fly. Desires heat. But there's one small problem. He claims they're trapped in the lost city of Atlantes, living on a cursed island deep within the ocean.

Something different

I’ve not read/listened to a book like this. It’s a unique storyline with good world building. Written well by Michelle, the characters are likeable. I’m looking forward to the next book to see where this storyline goes! Excellent performance from Rebecca.

A fun steamy well told story

A very enjoyable, fun, steamy story. The author has built an intricate and interesting world to set these stories in. Two strong, well described characters with excellent dialogue. Good steamy sex scenes, a few misunderstanding and a few shocks along the way. There are some interesting things that are left unexplained and the story has more to tell in the next books. The narration is excellent with an easy style, descent range and a pleasant voice that suits the story. I will definitely be looking to read more of these. Highly recommended. I received a complimentary copy from Storyorigin and am leaving a honest voluntary review

Great listen

Michelle is so good at world building and this is the first in The lords of the Abyss series. Bridget is a scientist and when the boat she’s on is attacked by strange sea creatures she is rescued by Caderyn . When she wakes up she is taken to see Aidan who explains they are in Atlantis and the people are Mer folk . The scientist in her won’t accept this and she tries to find answers that put her in danger. I really enjoyed listening to this new first in series and I’m looking forward to more.

Love Under the Sea

I’ve read a couple of the later Lords of the Abyss books which I loved but it was great to finally read the first in the series! A great storyline with characters that you can warm too. Bridget was so stubborn in the beginning, that I wanted to scream at her but in contrast, Caderyn was so very patient and so in love. I want a Caderyn! Lovely to see how their relationship develops. Plenty of action and steamy romance and if you like a HEA…you’ve also got that! I flicked between the ebook and audio which was great as I enjoy Rebecca Cook’s narration. If you’re looking for something a little different, entertaining and light, try this series. You won’t regret it!

Mmm

I enjoyed this story. I'm sure I've read it before and luckily the audio version didn't disappoint in creating the world I imagined for the story. I know other reviewers have issue with the main female but my thoughts are that if you were sucked into a full new world you'd definitely have issues with it. And half the time you won't know how you'd react. As for the graphic nature - I felt that yes it was but much much cleaner than some I read. No slang terms, no real cursing - well not out of place, and not excessive. I'd definitely continue reading this series.

Great first in series

Bridget is a scientist. When the research ship she is on is destroyed by a sea monster. She is saved my Carderyn. He takes her to his home an underwater city. Everyone there is a merr and she will never be able to leave. This is a great story, the world building is great. Bridget is a tad annoying at times. I look forward to the next in this series.

Great world building

Oooh! I really liked this audiobook! Caderyn and Bridget make for an interesting pair and are great examples of culture clashes/ misunderstandings. The characters are likable and interesting. The story is interesting and hot! The narrator did a great job with providing unique voices for each character and appropriate tone inflections for each scene. I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Adventures in the Abyss

Thanks a million Michelle M. Pillow!

Backstory, I won an audiobook in Michelle's recent giveaway but I already had a copy of that book, so Michelle's so kindly gave me a the audio version of The Mighty Hunter (Book 1 Lords of The Abyss Series).

I LOVED IT!!! I wish I had read it sooner! Like the Dragon Lords Lords, this is a whole new world (underwater) and it's absolutely fantastic. They men are merman shifters in this series and it's a whole new take on fantasy romance for me.

If you love the Dragon Lords series, this has a similar feel in a very different atmosphere! You definitely need to check this one out! I'm definitely looking forward to the next one in the series.

Narration by Rebecca Cook is on point! I prefer male narrators for audiobooks but I loved this one!

God Poseidon curse

The Mighty Hunter brings us a story of the merpeople that live beneath the sea in a dome that the god Poseidon cursed them too!! Sexy, funny, sweet, and had a lot of lovely surprises in it. This book was so good, I did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did.
Does a good job of introducing the reader to an intriguing setting and lore, even giving us some interesting villains in the Olympians, at least one of which looks redeemable. They always make the best main characters. The sex scenes were very erotic and frequent too. Were a couple of plot holes though, namely what the hell are the Scylla? And is time travel involved, what with an old wooden ship wreckage and people wearing old world style clothes discovered in the beginning? I know it'll likely be covered in book 3, but it's still annoying to be left hanging without an explanation for that the entire book.
It’s well-written and well-developed. The story-line and characters are also pretty unique considering it’s difficult to make an interesting mermaid story nowadays because there are already so many.

As for the audio book, it’s actually pretty good as well. My only qualm is that the narrator sounds older and even though she tells the story well for the most part, the sex scenes are extremely awkward because I feel like my grandmother is reading to me.
The author has a way with words that will hook you and will definitely bring me back to this world again and again. I can't wait to listen to the next one.

Sexy mermen and whiney women - possible spoilers

I was a little nervous about this book because some other reviews say the heroine is a bit whiney, but I gave it a shot anyway. I have to say that I agree, the heroine can be whiney, doesn't accept her situation, and even when she *says* she does, really she doesn't. All that said, I continued on with the story because despite the heroine being a little impulsive and making some really stupid decisions, the rest of the story was alright. Michelle Pillow excels at her love scenes and heroes being super sexy men. There is no question that this book is intended for mature audiences only, because, wow, just wow. The hero unfortunately conforms to some of the typical devices employed for "fish out of water" stories (yes, pun intended heh). He doesn't tell the heroine what is going to happen to her, doesn't communicate with her, and doesn't really explain much of the dynamics of where they are. I have seen this in alien races, paranormal shifter books and now, mermen books. I gave this book a 3 star overall review, but I'd really like it to be a 3.5. The narrator Rebecca Cook was very good, even though she sounds a bit like Allison Janney at times.

Wanted to love but couldn't

I loved Michelle Pillow Dragon Lords and Lords of the Var Series but I couldn't really get into this one. I wanted to, but it seem like all of her books have the same theme and I was just tired of the same plot. If I listed to this one first maybe I could of finished the book.

a good listen, main female character is too much

Where does The Mighty Hunter rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Hard to answer as i have listen to so many. This has a good story line. It is well performed not just read. The characters are well developed and the main female totally irritated me.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Mighty Hunter?

I think when the ship went down and Hunter saved her by breathing for her and taking her to his world.

Have you listened to any of Rebecca Cook’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Not that i am aware of but she did very well, even with the male characters.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, i wanted to strangle the main female. The lack of acceptance of where she was and what her life would be now, becomes old. She appears to lack common sense too.

Any additional comments?

Ms Pillow has a tenancy to create female characters that are very defiant and it goes on and on in this book. This is not the first book she has written that I wished to strangle the main female. It reminds me of spoiled brats with no common sense. Yes, you have a scientist, she is unbelieving or unaccepting of what she is told, runs off too see for herself. Stubborn, yes. A little of this goes a long way. Yes i will continue reading Ms. Pillow but i wish she would create a different personality for her main female character.

Main characters

What can I say. The woman was annoying. She is supposed to be a scientist but behaved like an idiot. A bit more character development would be nice. More story instead of just filling the book with sex scenes.

yes to the mighty hunter

It was great to be back listening to Ms. Cook. Love the voices she gave the characters and emotional delivery of the story. My fave voice in this story is the one she gave to Caderyn, also the one she gave the Queen.
The story is a different take on the Mer myth and loved delving into Ms. Pillow's world of the Abyss. Great world building, engaging characters and suspense mixed with romance. It was a great journey following Bridget's introduction to a world she belongs to but didn't know it even existed. Luckily she has Caderyn even though he sometimes blunders and so does she, the times when she doesn't listen and puts herself in danger, but it all works out in the end. There are quite a few surprises and twists along the way. Great supporting characters, Caderyn's sister, Merka made me laugh with her youthful exuberance.
The author has a way with words that will hook you and will definitely bring me back to this world again and again. I can't wait to listen to the next one.

Fun, sexy story!

I wasn't quite sure what I was getting into when I started this story, and now I can't wait to listen to the next one in the series! Definitely would recommend this series to anyone who isn't squeamish about erotic scenes, as there are quite a few.

Annoying heroine

For a woman who was supposed to be so smart, Bridget did stupid things. At times she was extremely annoying. Fortunately for her, Caderyn put up with her. Good world building. Rebecca Cook did a great job with the narration.
