Summary

Jeb Jackson, a once famous rodeo star, lives in isolation on his family’s storied ranch in Montana. Until the day a mysterious and complex young woman pays him a visit.

Less of a visit and more like the surprise of his life - an unwelcome one at that. Or so it seems, when the beautiful stranger (who claims to know him) announces she needs “straightening out”.

Now he’s got a drugged-up, freshly-divorced, sequin-encrusted beauty queen passed out in his bed and has no idea what to do with her or himself.

Falling in love seems like the only option.

Poor little rich girl vs Poor big rich cowboy

I received this audiobook free from the author for an honest review. This was a cute "second change romance" with wit and romance. Sometimes it is downright funny. This is basically a standalone in this series, but I'm gonna have to go back and listen to the two previous books just to remember Jeb's brother's story. The author did a great job of keeping the listener's/reader's attention. The narrator was good, but she needs to learn the difference in pronunciation of a cowboy rodeo from Rodeo Drive shopping. Overall I enjoyed this book.

Great listen to a story

I have listened to a lot of Tessa Bowen stories . And this is book 3 in the series . Tessa knows how to write stories that will grab your attention. This story will grab your attention with lots of twists and turns . The love story will grab your heart . You meet the hero in a previous story . Grab the other 2 stories in the series . This story is about Jack’s brother who , Jeb,
Jeb is saving a beauty, who is messed up . She needs to go straight, she’s hooked on drugs and other things. Does Jeb save her . While he is saving her , do they get closer.

Virgina performance was great . She did this whole series . Her voice is strong and her tone is great

enjoyable

This was a super sweet story which I totally enjoyed. Jeb was extremely sweet and considerate which was a contrast to his brother John from the second book. The narrator did a good job on the female voice however her male voice was not as good. I feel a male narrator would have made the listen more enjoyable.

Second Chance Romance

The Mermaid and the Cowboy by Tessa Bowen is a second chance romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Virginia Ferguson. This is the third book in The Demon Duchess Series.

I absolutely love Tessa’s books! They always leave me with a smile on my face.

Virginia did a great job on the narration. I love that she uses different voice/tones for each character. It really helps bring the story to life.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves second chance romances.

Picky

Okay, so the story was great, BUT the first bit of the book I thought the main female character was British because of the narrator. Also, southerners don’t call soda “soda pop”. Nor do we say, “tarnation”. The narrator kept saying rodeo as “rodeyo” instead of “rodeeeeo”.

I normally enjoy Tessa Bowen books but this one was hard for me. Maybe because I’m southern. It just irked the whole book.

Fun & Flirty, leaving you smiling!

The Mermaid and the Cowboy is a lovely second chance romance and an excellent addition to the Demon Duchess Series. I adore Tessa Bowen's writing style, her stories are refreshing with unique, and charming characters. Her books always leave me feeling light and happy.

I fell in love with Jeb's character in the Demon Duchess. I was thrilled to learn he gets his own book and a well-deserved happy ending. Lorelai, a pill-popping recently divorced debutante, drunkenly finds her way to Jab's, her long-time crush's, doorstep. Jeb and Lorelai's connection was palpable, and their interaction was fun, quirky, leaving me smiling the entire time.

Excellent narration by Virginia Ferguson. She portrayed the characters' distinct personalities and moods very well, breathing life into them. I enjoyed this audiobook, and strongly recommend it to second chance romance enthusiasts.

Splish Splash

I really enjoyed this story. Lorelai is a girl after my own heart. Much more daring, and comes from big money, but still very similar. The girl loves horses and I don't know a horse girl who does not love a hot cowboy.

The cowboy is also like most men, and needs to loose what is important before he realizes what he lost!

I love this story, once it started, I could not tear myself away.

Great Story!

I enjoyed this story, the third book in Tessa Bowen’s The Demon Duchess Series. It was so nice to see that Jeb ends up with his happily ever after. Although the narrator did a good job in narrating the bulk of the story, she totally failed in her pronunciation of rodeo—it was totally wrong for a southerner living in the United States. Every time I heard her pronunciation, it was like fingernails on a chalk board. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Jeb and his 'mermaid'

A short delightful story, sentimental and fun. I am glad Jeb finally gets his HEA. Loraleigh is not with whom I thought he will end up with, but from the beginning I felt that she might be the one who tamed him. Or did he tame her? They are good for each other for sure. Was glad to see John, Abby and Duckie again. The niece's quaking was quite entertaining, made me smile every time she was mentioned in the story.
Ms Ferguson has a distinct voice and I enjoyed listening to her variations for each character. She does male characters quite well. Never heard the way she pronounced 'rodeo', good thing it wasn't too many times.

Cute little story

So, I really thought the story was cute, but I had a hard time with the narrator’s pronunciation of rodeo from the start and her depiction of a rodeo cowboy. The accent was very awkward. I am from Texas and couldn’t relate, so maybe that’s part of it, but I was very distracted by it. Maybe this would have been a better one for me to read because I enjoyed the story. The narrator had a nice voice, and I’m sure she is great in other roles, but I had a hard time reconciling it in this one.

Enjoyable story

Nicely done second chance romance

I was so excited that Jeb. I fell in love with him as John's brother in The Demon Duchess. I wanted a happy ending for him. His mistakes caused him to be miserable but everyone deserves a second chance. In this story we meet Loraleigh. Jeb and her meet when she is too young but determined. He is at the high of his rodeo career and in love. He turns her away. Little did he know his world would change shortly after. Years later she shows up at his door after her divorce and under the influence. He cares for her like the gentleman he is. He starts to see her for the woman she is. She tries not to fall for him. But there was a reason she wanted him all those years ago. In true Tessa Bowen fashion, we have a stubborn romance. I loved it! It was a shorter read/listen than her other books but totally as enjoyable, if not more. Virginia Ferguson is a great voice for this series.

FYI not a paranormal romance.

It's a nice listen. It's a novella so it's short and kinda to the point. Narrated well.

Brought a smile to my face! Loved it!

This is truly an enjoyable listen. I loved Jeb from the last book and was eagerly awaiting his story. Even though he had a rough beginning he really stole my heart. I am not sure if the author could have chosen a more spectacular female for him. She is bold, outspoken and yet hides a tender heart. The road is a bit rocky for them and it’s filled with laughs and fun for me.

I LOVE all the connections here. Between the mermaid reference, Sophie and even his whittling. Of course it was great seeing Johnny, Abby and Duckie again.

Virginia Ferguson was the narrator of this awesome listen. She always surprises me with her little additives to the story. Hearing her “whoo hoo” was my little smile from this time. Well done!
