Summary

Discover the definitive book on the Menendez case - and the source material for NBC's Law and Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders.

A successful entertainment executive making two million a year. His former beauty queen wife. Their two sons on the fast track to success. Until tragedy struck.

Married for 26 years, Jose and Kitty Menendez appeared to be a happy couple and proud parents. Twenty-one-year-old Lyle Menendez was enrolled at Princeton, where he was a star on the tennis team. Eighteen-year-old Erik Menendez had just graduated from Beverly Hills High and was about to start college at UCLA. The Menendezes appeared to be living the American dream. But it was all a façade.

The Menendez saga has captivated and fascinated people since 1989. The killing of Jose and Kitty Menendez on a quiet Sunday evening in Beverly Hills didn't make the cover of People magazine until the arrest of their sons seven months after the murders, and the case developed an intense cult following. When the first Menendez trial began in July 1993, the public was convinced that Lyle and Erik - "the boys", as they would become known - were a pair of greedy rich kids who had killed loving, devoted parents. But the real story remained buried beneath years of dark secrets - until now.

Interesting insight

I remember watching a film probably in the 80’s and distinctly remember the Rolex watch buying … goo to hear the full facts. Some of which were difficult to hear. I hope they get released soon!

Interesting and informative

A long, very sad story about a murder that, being a Brit, I had not previously heard about. However, it was very difficult to distinguish between who was speaking, as the dialogue quickly changed between direct and reported speech with no change in voice, nor with any other indication that the speaker had changed. This was very confusing. Maybe this would have been clearer in the written form of the book, but as an audio reading, it was difficult to follow.

Must listen

The complex and highly emotional case was well captured and detailed throughout in such a way that it didn’t feel heavily biased one way or another. Very telling of the US justice system, the treatment of victims (in all aspects) and the hidden secrets of a family. I would definitely recommend!

Really good read

Very in depth book about this case. interesting to see how these cases would play out now. Child abuse now would not of been see easily ignored and overlooked. Wonder if tiktok movement will change there circumstances. Don't feel like they had a fair trial

Menendez

I seriously think if they guys were up infront of a jury today they’d be found not guilty. Unbelievable they’re still in jail

Riveting

Gripping storytelling. I never knew this much detail back in the 90s and only thought they were spoiled rich kids. But of course there is so much more than that.
