When the doors of the lift crank open, the only thing Thomas remembers is his first name. But he's not alone. He's surrounded by boys who welcome him to the Glade - a walled encampment at the centre of a bizarre and terrible stone maze.

Like Thomas, the Gladers don't know why or how they came to be there - or what's happened to the world outside. All they know is that every morning when the walls slide back, they will risk everything - even the Grievers, half-machine, half-animal horror that patrol its corridors, to try and find out.

I really enjoyed the whole Maze Runner series. The first book was a little slow to get going but once in, I was hooked.

Enjoyable

Story is fabulous, can't wait for the second book! But it is spoilt by the narrator. Intonation is all wrong and just really grates. Have to stick with it though in order to listen to the remaining books. After these books I certainly won't download anything else read by them though.

Great story, bad narrator

I'm an avid reader and decided to try reading the books as I'm a fan of the films. Sadly I couldn't get into it, as the book just didn't grab me. So I gave the audiobook a go. It took a white to get use to the narrators voice though. I didn't seem natural and almost has a droning style. I stuck with it however and finished the book. I'm not sure if it's the narrator or the writing but it was a bit hard to listen to in places.

That being said, I enjoyed the plot and fell in love with some characters. I'm going to try the next one in the series.

It's worth a listen.

Catchy book, but narrator's voice was a bit off

I loved listening to this. Super good and well read. Only thing is the few words that get repeated a bit too often in the story but otherwise excellent.

Enjoyed this even more than the movie
