Summary

When Princess Guendolen’s privileged existence is shattered by tribal war and the threat of rape impends, she is left with no choice but to surrender her virginity to a lowly commoner. The spoiled sovereign expects a night of torment and shame. Instead, her unlikely bedfellow introduces her to a world of carnal delights.

Prince Taran, dreaded leader of the savage Picts, approaches. He plans to pluck Guendolen’s prized maidenhead. Once she carries his heir, he will claim her father’s throne. King Cedric hatches a frantic scheme. His daughter must lie with one of their own. Better a Briton babe growing in her womb than a Pictish one. With every last man fighting on the battlefield, there is only one lad who is available for such a task, and that is Phalen, her childhood nemesis.

Mysterious as he is defiant, the adopted son of the village blacksmith has little interest in Guendolen’s beauty and considers the overindulged “jewel of the kingdom” to be a royal pain in the rear. Sparks fly each time they meet. On the fated night, Guendolen does her best to obstruct Phalen from carrying out his orders, but what starts out as an act of duty soon turns into an evening of passion.

Our hero and heroine reunite two years later. She, having given birth to his son; and he, having returned from battle - now a formidable warrior. Under constant pressure from her father to marry, Guendolen agrees to wed the father of her bastard child, whose touch she still wears like a brand. The elusive Phalen continues to rile the princess with his taunting gaze, denying her the attention she craves in and out of the bedchamber. Will she ever be able to win the favor of this dark and brooding man?

Britons Jewel

I had a hard time liking the heroine due to her entire focus being on image. I have to give her props though for constantly putting herself out there to a husband that constantly puts her down. The hero was very alpha and he gave us some great steamy scenes but he was also extremely rude and hard to like. A little too blunt and cold for me. There was a sub plot of the Britons and Picts fighting that was very good to the story line. To simplify, I believe this is a story trying to turn enemies into lovers. The narrator did a fantastic job of going at a great pace. She also put a lot of emotion into each character, bringing them to life.

Great settings

This was my first pirate book and I must say I really enjoyed it. It wasn’t as harsh as I thought it would be. And yet again Tessa has a way of making me fall in love with the pirate! Fantastic writing skills.

Quick Read and Wonderful Narration

This is the first book in a new series by Tessa Bowen and while the opening is a bit unusual for a ‘romance’ novel, it is fully disclosed in the description of the book.

Read expertly once again by Virginia Ferguson, the ‘hero’ is sometimes hard to love but the story is well penned. I loved the unexpected surprises this book offered. I look forward to reading more in this series as I think there are certainly several characters that could be further explored.

I was provided with a free copy of this audio book for my honest review. The views expressed here are entirely my own.

Historical Romance

The Marauder by Tessa Bowen is the first book in the Pillager Series. I listened to this book on audio narrated by Virginia Ferguson. Virginia dis a great job narrating with the different voices she uses for each of the characters. This is the third book of Tessa's and Virginia's collaboration that I have listened to and I look forward to future projects. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys historical romances with an Alpha male.

How to Tame a Princess!

I loved this book. Sexy story about a spoiled princess and the man who tames her..

Narrator was a little slow so I increased the listening speed and it was fine after that.

I was given this review copy and this is my honest review.

Fun and Sexy!

This is the first book in the The Pillager Series. Wow! I love this story! The characters are really great! The story has it all: Fun, sexy, steamy, sweet, fast-paced, and suspenseful. Virginia Ferguson did an outstanding and amazing narration! I enjoyed my listening, and can't wait for the next book in the Series. Good story

I liked the storyline and the characters was well written. The stilted language took a while to get used to, I actually don’t know if I ever got used to it.....

One of the things I did enjoy was that there was no unnecessary descriptions of surroundings. The love scenes was steamy.

I didn’t like for the narrator and it had nothing to do with performance because the pronunciation was clear and the reading was passionate. I just couldn’t find the voice comfortable listening to, that’s just my opinion.
However I did enjoy this story and I would love to listen to a story from this author set in our time and with another narrator.

Sexy, Exciting and Funny.

This audio book was a delight. This author never fails. Her work is so diverse and unusual. I love both of her narrators. Virginia Ferguson does her best job yet in this one. Tessa matches humor with a high steam factor, which really keeps you in your seat, or in this case hooked into your headphones. Her characters are rich and colorful and her dialogue sparkles. And man does she write a great sex scene. I only wish this audio book was longer, but it's a fast fun ride, so I guess it's the perfect length. The Marauder is a saucy Medieval tale, with two main characters who clash and sizzle. Loved it.

A beautiful story with perfect narration

This was a story that I couldn’t turn off. The narrator did a fabulous job drawing your attention and bringing life to the characters. Tessa Bowen has done it again with a story that has all of feels and surprises as you love and hate the hero/villain. Can this unlikely couple bring peace to the rival communities?

This is officially my favorite book yet by Tessa!

The Marauder by Tessa Bowen, a story of two mortal enemies that is suppose to hate each other and not fall in love. A story about husband and wife who can't help but to submit in temptations and found each other unable to disentangle themselves with each other because of strong attraction that they tried to deny to themselves.

This is officially my favorite book yet by Tessa Bowen, the story is so enticing and hot! Yes, hot. I love the characters as well as the emotions it made me feel while listening to this book. I can't get enough that I finished this in one sitting! I promise you, if you feel cold during winter this book is like summer hot.

No doubt a great narration by Virginia Ferguson. ❤

A definite 5 star read!

Wonderful narration

I will start by saying that this hero (if you can call him that) is hard to love.
Phalen, the adopted son of a blacksmith, has never cared for the young princess Guendolen. She has lived a privileged and sheltered life, doted on by those around her. But when war threats their country and the savage Picts approach, Phalen is the princess' only protection.
Two years later Guendolen and Phalen are reunited but both of their lives have dramatically changed. Phalen is not the man he claimed to be but with a child and a union between them Guendolen has no choice but to follow him back to his home land.
Virginia Ferguson does a wonderful job bringing the characters to live with her narration. I've enjoyed her reading of other books and I was happy to listen to her again.
