Summary

The 'master of the wartime spy thriller' (Financial Times) returns with the gripping follow up to the best-selling A Prince and a Spy, as Tom Wilde is sent to Germany to investigate the truth behind Hitler's death....

Germany, late summer 1945.

The war is over, but the country is in ruins. Millions of refugees and holocaust survivors strive to rebuild their lives in displaced persons camps. Millions of German soldiers and SS men are held captive in primitive conditions in open-air detention centres. Everywhere, civilians are desperate for food and shelter. No one admits to having voted Nazi, yet many are unrepentant.

Adolf Hitler is said to have killed himself in his Berlin bunker. But no body was found - and many people believe he is alive. Newspapers are full of stories reporting sightings and theories. Even Stalin, whose own troops captured the bunker, has told President Truman he believes the former Führer is not dead. Day by day, American and British intelligence officers subject senior members of the Nazi regime to gruelling interrogation in their quest for their truth.

Enter Tom Wilde - the Cambridge professor and spy sent in to find out the truth....

Very enjoyable but not the best in the series

I enjoyed the audiobook very much. The narration is generally good with well delivered, consistent accents. Story line isn’t quite as gripping as some of the other books but still very enjoyable.

The Man in the Bunker

A superbly written narrative about one of the greatest unsolved mysteries of WW2. Well worth listening to and gripping from beginning to end.

Didn’t Disappoint!

I’m a huge Tory Clements fan and pre-ordered this audiobook.
Really enjoyed the story and the narrator was superb! Especially, tackling a Dutch accent, which is not easy.
Highly recommended.

Excellent

I’ve read three earlier books by Rory Clements. This is his best. I thoroughly enjoyed both the story, including its twisting plot, and the narration.

Thoroughly enjoyable.

I’d really like to know a Tom Wilde but the character of Lydia not so much although I do empathise with what she puts up with!. At least, their opposite ways complement each other and suit the storyline. Great narration. The story was a bit far fetched and it didn’t disappoint but now for the Russian …

Enjoyable Entry

Interesting storyline to continue the Tom Wilde series. The descriptions of post war Germany and the impacts of the war on the characters was well written. Look forward to the next one.
