Summary

It started as as a simple search for a landscape designer...I wanted a beautiful backyard for my new home and my neighbors suggested I look into ward landscaping and design. The owner had no pictures of himself on his website, just a portfolio of nice outdoor sitting areas, pools, and vibrant gardens that I’d always dreamed of having.

Of course I hired him.I expected to meet an average guy, but Mr. Marcel Ward is far from your average man. He’s handsome, and well-built, and his smile - though a rare trait - is truly infectious. He’s every woman’s dream - a handsome, older man who doesn’t mind getting down and dirty to create something beautiful all because of his passion for it. Unfortunately that lucky woman can’t be me. Although Mr. Ward tests my limits, quickens my breath, and makes my heart skip a beat when he’s around, I’ve made a promise to devote myself to my husband.

So why am I falling for a man I know I can’t have?

OMG!!!! I never saw that coming!!!

Shanora Williams is awesome!!!!!! This book is so good! Gabby and Kyle, recently married , move into their new home on the beach. She works on their home and he works away a lot.

I’m going to keep this brief.. I won’t spoil this... it’s too shocking! I actually gasped for the last 20 minutes of this. I am still speechless as I write this and try to tell you how good this is without letting anything slip! So I’ll just say... this book is worth every minute of listening!

Lacy Laurel and Aiden Snow are both excellent narrators and they made this book come alive!!

Heaven Help Me

Good Heavens, if I could give this more stars, I would. This story captured me from the start and kept me so fully engrossed, I had trouble stopping. Every emotion was felt in the book, and the narrators were breathtakingly perfect. I want, no, need more. I was at the pool, watching my kids swim, listening to the end and had to stop, because I was on the verge of tears. The end, cliffhanger, is so heartbreaking and had me bawling like a baby when I finished later. I need there to be more!!!

Taboo Love

Audiobook Review
This book starts with Gabby and her husband Kyle moving to the beach and moving into their dream home. This home quickly becomes a type of lonely prison for Gabby with Kyle always away. When she decides to have a patio added out back and gets a recommendation from her neighbor little does she know she will not only change the looks of her home but will also change her life in a path she never saw coming.

This is a taboo love story with secrets that are still hidden as is this part 1 so I can't wait to continue this story with book 2. At times I want to shake Gabby for being so naive and trusting of her husband and I also want to hold Marcell to ease his pain. You know there is more to this story that is revealed so even though it it taboo I could feel for Gabby and justify her actions. I wanted her to find comfort in Marcell and to drop kick Kyle to the curb.

Lacy Laurel and Aiden Snow were great with these characters. Lacy's voice fit Gabby perfectly, I could visualize her characters as Lacy narrated. Aiden, need I say more. I love his voice and he did a great southern drawl for Marcell. I enjoyed listening from beginning to end and hated when it ended. I need more.

Not What it Seems and is Amazing!

I totally wasn't expecting the story this author brings together. There are parts that we can definitely see coming but there is a whole lot of suspense about not knowing what is going to come next. There is so much angst, intense chemistry, betrayal, heartbreak and super hot scenes throughout this listen. I'm new to this author, but I am certainly impressed and will be looking forward to the next book in the duet as well as other works. Loved the characters!

These two narrators gave a wonderful performance. I believe this is the first Aiden Snow performance I've heard and he definitely lives up to the hype with his deeper yet sensuous voice; I'll be listening to more by him. Lacy does an amazing job as Gabby and conveys the perfect amount of desire, sadness, anger and emotion throughout. Great job by these two narrators and a great pair too!

I received a review copy at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.

My Thoughts on The Man I Can't Have

This may be a first book by a new to me author but clearly Shanora Williams has talent. She took a subject that might not be comfortable for some people to read, but told it in such a way that it just read like an emotional but fantastic romance to me. It had me feeling all types of emotions. All of that was heightened by the AMAZING narrators. I loved both of them and felt like they told this story perfectly. Aiden Snow did a great southern accent that I just loved listening to. Lacy Laurel is just perfection. Every time I listen to a new book by her I become a bigger fan.

That cliffy though. I'm going to need part two of this duet asap.

What a difficult theme...

Cheating is never my cup of tea but this story moved me. She made wrong decisions as we all do but he was so manly and sexy. A successful self made man, with the kept wife. He was such a gentleman... Two men to choose from, what’s a girl to do. But it does deeper than that. The narration was great. Aiden Snow has such a deep voice wow!

This was a great story! This does involve cheating so it's probably not for everyone. I loved it, though, but was surprised when it ended in a cliffhanger because I didn't realize it was a duet. Luckily, I believe book 2 is out soon. This was a good storyline although I'll have to relisten to this because I sure didn't see that twist coming. Marcel was a great character. He was lonely and filled with guilt and really deserves something good in his life. The sex was pretty hot between Marcel and Gabby. Lacy and Aiden did a great job bringing these characters to life.

😮 OMG

I am blown away. I had no idea where this book was going with the tragic opening but the end had me gasping. I need to listen again.

Shanora Williams takes your emotions on a white knuckle inducing wild ride. It’s so easy to lose yourself in this story, once I started I could not stop listening. Was I awake until 3am, yes. Am I over that ending, absolutely not.

The writing is scorching hot. Like melt your tablet sexy. While sitting down and writing this review I am just now coming to terms with how masterful the foreshadowing is.

Gabby is the main character you go through the majority of the book from her perspective. She is a gorgeous artist whose just graduated college, been married and moved to a new state. Her Husband Kyle an older successful investment banker whose job pulls him all over the country. Then there is Marcellus the southern charmer who is hired to transform Gabby and Kyle’s backyard. His is the other POV in the story.

This was my first experience with Shanora Williams’s writing and I can already tell she is someone I will be reading the rest of my life. I’m so excited to find more of her work. The narrators were fantastic. I did have one minor issue with the way one of them pronounced the word architect but that did not diminish the overall experience for me.

I am anxiously waiting for the second part of this duet.

I would recommend this for fans of great writing, age gap (not taboo) romance, steamy romance and people that like to visceral reactions to books (girl I’m telling you that ending. I’m done for)

There is some subject matter some readers my find triggering (infidelity)

Not what I expected!

This sounds like the typical wife not happy with husband so she has affair. But it is so much more. This is the first book I have listened to by Shanora Williams and it won't be my last. Gabby seems to be looking for a more sexually fulfilling experience, but she is torn by her decisions. Marcel has been haunted by the loss of his sister and feels love is out of his reach. When they meet there is instant chemistry between them. This begins their relationship that includes some very explosive sex and love and I do mean explosive! Marcel really cares for Gabby and only wants to please her. Will this desire turn into love and will Gabby leave her powerful husband? A husband is a man her friend and some family members do not like. The cliffhanger had my jaw dropping and OMG going through my mind.

Lacy Laurel and Aiden Snow are perfect storytellers. Aiden portrays Marcel's inner demons, sexual desires and actions, and need for Gabby in a way that will have you falling in love with Marcel. Lacy let's us experience all of Gabby's guilty feelings and lust for Marcel. They also bring the other characters to life.

I volunteered to receive this Audible book in exchange for an honest review. Shanora has written one powerful story that is full emotion, mystery, desire, and fantastic sex scenes. I must admit I couldn't stop listening and finished at dawn. Shanora please get the second book of this duet in audible soon! I highly recommend this Audible book!

Fantastic book

I was drawn in by the cover of this book. Since I'd never read a book by this author before, I figured this would be a good one to start my introduction to her. And I wasn't wrong. I loved this story. From the way the characters met, to their chemistry together, to the sexy times and that ending. Gah! I can't wait to get the rest of this story. I was so caught up in it that I hated to put it aside and do real-life things. This I definitely one I plan on revisiting again.

The wrong Man

The man I Can't Have by Shanora Williams is unexpected. We meet Marcel Ward first with his sister. Fast forward several years, and we meet Gabby a newly wed artist and her ambitious husband, Kyle. Kyle and Gabby have made a move south, away from her home and parents. They have bought and are moving into a new house. Gabby is often home alone, as Kyle travels extensively for his job. When Gabby meets her neighbor, she sees that she is having work done on her yard. Her neighbor highly recommends the landscaping company she is using, Ward's Landscaping. After meeting Gabby, It is with some reluctance that Marcel takes the job. Gabby is excited for him to start work. Kyle, not so much. In fact he goes so far as to go behind Gabby's back to stop the project. Not expecting Marcel to tell Gabby about it. After she finds out and confronts Kyle, the project goes ahead, Gabby and Marcel form a friendship that slowly turns into something much more. They both know it's wrong but seem powerless to stop it. This is a forbidden romance, that was absolutely impossible to put down. Nothing is what it appears. Be warned, this ends in a cliff-hanger! I can't wait to read the conclusion in The Man I Need Book 2!

This how it started but how will it end

My simple opinion would be this duet is a must, a dual narration would have been better if only because our male storyteller has a blush worthy voice, I did not get quite enough off.

Shanora Williams wrote about a woman's affair, while some will not read it (listen), harshly judging the heroine's decision to find happines in the arms of someone she did not pledge her loyalty too, then you deserve to miss out on this duet because it is so much more...

While this does end on a cliffhanger and I will anxiouly wait for the next audiobook, it is the end that reveals there will be some well worth answers to look forward for.

I really liked this story. The characters were great and well developed. Marcel and Gabby had such great and intense chemistry. The storyline was good too and dealt with real issues people go through or can relate to. Aiden Snow and Lacy Laurel did a great job with the narration.

Hot, hot... hawt!

Ohhh Shanora Williams… guuurl… you’ve got such a way with words! I fell for these characters so darn quickly. It could have been the forbidden aspects mixed with these flaws that make the characters so understandable. Mrs. Williams crosses the life of forbidden and taboo… this isn’t a line I pass frequently. However, I’ve enjoyed every single one of Shanora Williams’ previous books. The Man I Can’t Have is no exception.

We get Mrs. Williams’ normal major sex appeal… I mean Shanora Williams can make you wiggle during those sexy times like nothing else! The are intense and as hot as Hades! I know most people are going to look at the blurb or see the “Cheating” warnings and marriage… but doesn’t this reflect every day real life? I mean, how many marriages actually get through faithfully these days? I’m saying this as a married woman for over 12 years. I’ve been faithful and I believe with 100% my entire heart that my husband has been faithful, as well. However, I know statistics don’t lie and cheating is pretty common. Even then, I enjoy reading for the vacation in my mind… a brief visit to another life, another world so I don’t mind a visit to a book where my beliefs don’t match up. This is definitely way different to my beliefs. So, what does all my ramblings mean??? While you might not agree with what you are reading this isn’t a true story and it’s meant to be a story. It totally lives up to an angsty romance with drama and emotional feelings!

Lacy Laurel and Aiden Snow were super incredible together! I mean, my lanta... these two! Lacy's voice is always so smooth and beautiful. Aiden's voice is pure man. I can't help but fall into these two voices. Their voices are so different and so compelling together!

5 stars is not enough for this book

This is a 10 star book!!
This story is so captivating. It is so realistic. It is so relatable. It is so intense!

Gabrielle is not happy in her married life. When she hires a landscaper to create a backyard Oasis, she see happiness in her reach. Marcel is taboo, she is married. But she melts everytime Marcel is near her. Marcel admires Gabrielle and he does not hide his desires. But there is still Kyle.

I loved this book. There are many real life issues dealt with in this book. Adultery, abuse, obsession to name a few. Gabrielle is easily related to. Her struggles brings so much angst to the story. I think I stopped breathing at times as I listened to Gabrielle's struggles. There are steamy, hot scenes that heat up the pages. But the taboo relationship kept me from putting this book down.

This was a duet narration with Lacy Laurel and Aiden Snow. Aiden Snow has a swoon worthy voice. His narration of Marcel, makes Marcel so desirable. Kyle's true personality comes to life with Mr Snow's narration. Marcel and Kyle are complete opposites and Mr. Snow was able to bring that out through his narration. Lacy Laurel was mesmerizing. Her narration of Gabrielle was so intense. Every struggle, every desire, every emotion was so real through Ms. Laurel's narration. It was like a movie was playing in my mind as I listened to this duet team. This is one story to listen too. I cannot wait for more!

YES

Holy cow! This book has me on tenterhooks from beginning to end. The chemistry between the main characters was off the chain. It starts with a slow burn and takes off from there.
For anyone who might have an issue with infidelity, this might not be your book, however, I would give it a try because everyone has their reasons, and Gabby definitely has hers.
The narration by Aiden Snow and Lacy Laurel was wonderful. Each lent a lovely warmth to the book.
In close, I loved it!

Great Story & Listen🎧 Smoking🔥Hot & Angsty!

This is my first Shanora Williams book and it will not be my last. I enjoyed her writing style and the story she created, it captivated me from start to end. Her storylines are interesting filled with drama and angst, I felt like I was taken on an emotional rollercoaster ride. This is a slow burn romance a forbidden one but sometimes things are just meant to happen. The characters in this story are complex and well developed. I loved Marcel, Mr. Ward, he is smoking hot with a no nonsense attitude. He did not have such an easy life and the losses & guilt he suffers from did a number on him emotionally. And with his personal life being an empty mess it is nice to see he has a successful business. I really liked Gabby, she had a great personality but I felt like she was not being entirely truthful about her husband and their relationship and I am not talking about a lack of spark or that she felt something was missing. I sensed there was more to it and I was devastated to learn what it was in the climatic ending. I wonder what else is going on with Kyle, hints were dropped but I am sure more will surface in the next book “The Man I Need”, aka the book I need now, fingers crossed it comes out on Audible soon. Shanora Williams, thank you for this great story, I am looking forward to the next one.

I listened to the Audible edition, Lacy Laurel and Aiden Snow are wonderful narrators and voice performers. They bring the characters to life, give each their own voice and personality. They do a great job projecting the emotions of the characters in their performance. I loved Lacy’s Gabby and Aiden’s Marcel, sultry and swoon worthy, so fitting and perfect. Both are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another great listen🎧
