Summary

When Charlie Parker was still a boy, his father, a NYPD cop, killed a young couple, a boy and a girl barely older than his son, and then took his own life. There was no explanation for his actions. Now Parker is working on his most personal case yet: an investigation into his own origins and the circumstances surrounding the death of his father. The investigation will reveal a life haunted by lies, by secrets kept and loyalties compromised. And by two figures in the shadows, a man and a woman, with only one purpose: to bring an end to Charlie Parker's existence….

Best Charlie Parker since the first.

I've become somewhat obsessed by the series since I was recommended the first book by a close friend. The original remains by far the best of the series so far but this is a close second. It builds nicely as all of the books do, interweaving various strands to engage and excite the reader before it's satisfying finale, which unlike many of the earlier books in the series, doesn't feel rushed or undercooked and feeds into the next stage of the story of Charlie Parker. Really cannot recommend this book enough.

Better

More of the Raymond Chandler and less of the Anne Rice. Brilliantly read by Jeff Harding, totally enthralling plot. Could be longer. Thanks

Another great story in the Charlie Parker saga.

Well performed version of the book. A must for John Connolly fans great to listen to even if you’ve read the book previously.

As good as ever

Brilliant narration, a great mixture of action and the occult. It’s good to listen to the books in correct order, which I have done several times!

Another extraordinary story

.. the way Connolly twists them keeps you hooked till the very end. Yet another dark but beautifully written immersion into the ocult revolving around around (or because of) Charlie Parker and his heritage. Well done John Connolly

Backstory Revelations

An excellent addition to a terrific series of books. This answers a number of points and then poses a number of questions. As usual, superbly read.
