Summary

When Charlie Parker was still a boy, his father, a NYPD cop, killed a young couple, a boy and a girl barely older than his son, and then took his own life. There was no explanation for his actions. Now Parker is working on his most personal case yet: an investigation into his own origins and the circumstances surrounding the death of his father. The investigation will reveal a life haunted by lies, by secrets kept and loyalties compromised. And by two figures in the shadows, a man and a woman, with only one purpose: to bring an end to Charlie Parker's existence….

I don't like zombie books...

But I absolutely LOVE this series! If you think of "living" dead people more as spirits or entities then use your credits on this series starting at number 1 and know that you've got a whole load of great listening and fabulous narration. After all, if it's not your "thing" then you can always return it 😊

Excellent

As usual, another excellent installment in the Charlie Parker series.

John Connolly continues to build and expand Charlie's world without ever feeling forced, disingenuous, contrived or convenient.

And Jeff Harding is excellent as always.

Not up to the usual standard of this Author

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The story line finally became good....but took a long time getting there !

Would you ever listen to anything by John Connolly again?

Oh...Yes !!

Would you listen to another book narrated by Jeff Harding?

Again...Oh Yes!!

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Lovers?

Change title situation a little....If I were his publisher, I would have cautioned against publishing..no offence John !

Oh dear ...

I bought this title on the basis of its star rating and description, mistakenly thinking that this was a crime thriller. I haven't previously read anything by this author. The first half of the book was suitably thrilling and interesting, but once the supernatural references started to appear, and it became apparent that the mystery was based in supernatural circumstances I couldn't have been more disappointed if vampires or zombies had been introduced. Just not my genre; it it's yours you will doubtless enjoy it as it was unquestionably well-written and well-read.
