About this listen

With an exclusive new bonus chapter... from Adam's POV

Based on the available information and the data hitherto collected, my hypothesis is that the further I stay away from love, the better off I will be.

'Contemporary romance's unicorn: the elusive marriage of deeply brainy and delightfully escapist.' Christina Lauren, New York Times bestselling author of The Unhoneymooners

*

When a fake relationship between scientists meets the irresistible force of attraction, it throws one woman's carefully calculated theories on love into chaos.

As a third-year Ph.D. candidate, Olive Smith doesn't believe in lasting romantic relationships but her best friend does, and that's what got her into this situation. Convincing Anh that Olive is on her way to a happily ever after was always going to be tough, scientists require proof. So, like any self-respecting woman, Olive panics and kisses the first man she sees.

That man is none other than Adam Carlsen, a young hotshot professor and well-known ass. Which is why Olive is positively floored when he agrees to keep her charade a secret and be her fake boyfriend. But when a big science conference goes haywire and Adam surprises her again with his unyielding support (and his unyielding abs), their little experiment feels dangerously close to combustion.

Olive soon discovers that the only thing more complicated than a hypothesis on love is putting her own heart under the microscope.

Critic reviews

Contemporary romance's unicorn: the elusive marriage of deeply brainy and delightfully escapist...The Love Hypothesis has wild commercial appeal but the quieter secret is that there is a specific audience, made up of all of the Olives in the world, who have deeply, ardently waited for this exact book. (Christina Lauren, New York Times bestselling author of The Unhoneymooners)
Funny, sexy and smart. (Mariana Zapata, New York Times bestselling author)
This tackles one of my favorite tropes - Grumpy meets Sunshine - in a fun and utterly endearing way... I loved the nods towards fandom and romance novels, and I couldn't put it down. Highly recommended! (Jessica Clare, New York Times bestselling author)
Pure slow-burning gold with lots of chemistry.
Smart, witty dialogue and a diverse cast of likeable secondary characters... A realistic, amusing novel that readers won't be able to put down.
With whip-smart and endearing characters, snappy prose, and a quirky take on a favourite trope, Hazelwood convincingly navigates the fraught shoals of academia... This smart, sexy contemporary should delight a wide swathe of romance lovers.
When a book has a certain type of magic between the pages, you manage to get from the prologue to the epilogue without coming up for air ... The Love Hypothesis was one of these books.
I fell in love with Adam's and Olive's relationship ... it's the best romance book I've read this year

The story was enjoyable enough until the sex part. I am baffled that this was written by a woman...the male character is delighted that her vagina is 'so small and tight' and the female character does this weird naive psudeo virginal thing of 'will it hurt', 'I've never done this before ', 'will it fit' and 'am i doing it right'....it just smacked of male fantasy. I agree with another review that the female lead becomes tiresome with her lack of backbone after a while.

It got weird

I waited for this book for so long! And it didn’t disappoint! I couldn’t stop listening, I stayed up until 3 in the morning and only went to sleep because my AirPods died!

Love love love!!!!

I loved this story and finished it in a day!! I fell in love with both the leads. I guessed what was going to happen in the end quite early on, even still enjoyed the pace and Olive’s internal monologue so I continued till the end. The only downside - I would say the narration of Olives character felt robotic at times (particularly in the first few chapters) which took me out of the story. I love forward to the next instalment from Ali Hazelwood

Very enjoyable except the robotic narration

Hands down. The Best Romance. I have ever read.

This… was just so perfect. I have no notes. I’m kinda of emotional. No, I AM emotional.

This was the story I didn’t even know I needed.

Who knew a fellow-academic using romance for therapy would be my salvation because wow. That’s author’s note hit me in the feels, and I appreciate so much knowing someone else out there feels the same.

Adam’s bonus chapter was just the cherry on top of a wondrous pile of whipped cream and the best cheesecake ever.

I’m buying this on paper. And kindle.

New favourite.

It’s completely brilliant.

I had seen this book on social media for months before I got round to enjoying it. It's so good. An easy listen and read. the narrator is smooth and a relaxing tone. I primarily listen to audio books in the car and this made the long journeys much more enjoyable. I'm now looking forward to the next one.

Loved it!
