About this listen

Enter a world of dragon politics and missing librarians – in 1920s New York City. Immerse yourself in The Lost Plot, the fourth gripping instalment in the Invisible Library series from Genevieve Cogman.

A covert mission. A royal demand. And a race against time.

In a 1920s-style America, Prohibition is in force, fedoras and flapper dresses are in fashion – and intrepid librarians Irene and Kai find themselves caught in a fierce dragon duel.

A demanding queen has ordered her heirs to find a rare book, and it seems a young librarian has become tangled in the conflict. If Irene and Kai can't extricate him, there could be grave political fallout for the library. This could even trigger war.

Irene and Kai's quest: to outsmart gangsters, evade security, rescue the librarian and retrieve the book. If they can't, it could have dire consequences for Irene's job. And, incidentally, for her life . . .

Continue the literary magic with The Mortal Word, the next step in this enchanting historical fantasy.

Before I go on, I have no idea what the other reviewer is talking about saying it’s a different narrator - it’s not, it’s same narrator as always.

Audible doesn’t give good blurbs, so let me try to give one here - the queen of a dragon court has issued a challenge to two of her courtiers vying for an open position, these subordinate dragons seek to undermine the neutrality of the Library by gaining the aid of Librarians in their challenges. Our heroine, Irene, finds herself at the centre of this, in new world (to her), trying to steer a path to keep both the Library’s reputation safe and her dragon apprentice Kai out of the political fall out, while dealing with a prohibition era New York that thinks she’s a London crime boss.

It’s not as fraught as the last one, but perhaps it’s all the better for that, and Irene needs to rely very heavily on her improvisation skills here, dodging dragons, crime bosses and the law, while getting Kai to show some initiative himself.

Another good sequel

I love everything about this series! The story is clever and interesting, sometimes funny and heartfelt. I enjoyed the language (small ‘l’) very much with its balance of easy flowing and delicious taste-bombs of ‘ohh, good word’! And then there’s the narration - Kristen Atherton is top-most top-class! She’s now my benchmark on which I judge all other narrators. I have since listened a everything on Audible that she’s narrated. More please!
Overall, a great great listen.

I love this series completely!

An excellent story with much more detail in the characters. it contonues the story and is completed not leaving a cliff hanger like so many do.

excellent

I loved this story. It managed to be plausible whilst being completely bonkers. You need to have read the two other stories first though.
The narration was brilliant, subtle and totally engaging. I was so drawn to kristin’s style. I’ll listen to anything she is involved in.
I am so glad there are more. I highly recommend the series so far. Well done!!!!!

What an extraordinary pleasure and narrator
