Liverpool, 1946: the blackout blinds may be coming down, but one family is about to face devastating misfortune.

Dora Evans is finally marrying the love of her life, and her dreams of opening a dressmaking business look as if they might come true. With twin daughters on the way, Dora has everything she's ever wanted. But then tragedy strikes: one of Dora's babies dies in infancy, and a catastrophic fire changes their lives forever. Annoying!

Have only just started listening to this book and although the story seems OK, the narrator is awful. If reading about Liverpool surely pronunciation of certain things is important. Such as scones as rhymes with gone & not cone. Even worse to switch between the two! Also since when have the Liver birds been pronounced like an internal organ. So annoying. Surely a true scouser could have been found to narrate correctly. Think I will read this one myself & give up on audible.

The ending

Lovely book and story but the ending was so abrupt! I was really surprised and was expecting to hear more about them all.

A good reason for mid century historical fiction fans

A really enjoyable book, very well narrated, the ending could have been a bit more interesting but other than that I recommend this audio book
