Summary
Follow the disaster magnets of St Mary's as they hurtle around history! The ninth book in The Chronicles of St Mary's Series collects the best-selling short stories in audio for the first time.
'When a Child Is Born': a jump back to 1066 to witness the coronation of William the Conqueror goes slightly astray.
'Roman Holiday': Max and her team become spectacularly involved with Julius Caesar, Cleopatra and a basket of confused asps.
'Christmas Present': an attempt to rescue lost historians involving an enraged pig and Boudicca herself.
'The Very First Damned Thing': discover the truth about the very beginning of St Mary's.
'Ships and Stings and Wedding Rings': a gun left behind in ancient Egypt and a race against time to prevent a catastrophe.
'The Great St Mary's Day Out': hooray! It's a happy holiday. For everyone except Max, the only one with her mind on the job.
'My Name Is Markham': Alfred, the cakes and Mr Markham. The Great British Bake Off it's not!
And a bonus a new and previously unpublished short story - 'A Perfect Storm'.

Excellent It is so nice to have all the short stories in one place, not to mention all read by our favourite narrator.
The new addition to the series is absolutely hilarious! Just what I needed to put a smile on my face after the succession of awful headlines we've been bombarded by lately. Thank you Jodie.

Great fun & great stories.
What’s not to like? A lovely selection of stories centred round the same characters, all of whom are so wonderfully human like the rest of us & you can’t help but like. Stories are well written and open doors to different times, different ideas whilst creating such vivid and detailed pictures in time. All the while the every ready and relatable kettle is anticipated for the much needed next brew as they travel through events.
Off to find some more Jodi Taylor and to spread the word.

Great to Read the Inbetween Bits
Would you listen to The Long and the Short of It again? Why?
There are very few books I would listen to again but, this is definitely one of them. It is great to get some added, in between, detail to the stories I have already read about St. Mary's. Love the whole series.
What did you like best about this story?
I don't usually like short stories because just as you are getting your teeth into characters or even the story itself, it ends and leaves you wanting but, this collection is of characters you already know and love from Jodi's other St. Mary's books and I love her books and story telling so much that I would read anything she prints!
What about Zara Ramm’s performance did you like?
She is a wonderful story teller and her knack of getting the accents for each character just right is amazing. She takes you right into the story and helps the Author bring her characters and plots to life. Great performances by her on everything she reads.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Every book I have read by Jodi Taylor has made me laugh and cry....she is an amazing Author and her story telling is beyond compare.
Any additional comments?
I have now read everything that Jodi Taylor has published about St. Mary's and can't wait for No.9 to be taken up by Audible....please don't make it too long!!!

A great collection
Although I'd already listened to the original short stories for free through my membership I enjoyed listening again in this collection with the added author introductions. And the new short story, A Perfect Storm, was a brilliant example of what can happen in a week without pod based adventures at St Mary's.

Thoroughly enjoyable
I loved this book, it was so great hearing from the author how these stories came about and where her ideas come from, or don't..
Although it's slightly disjointed because the stories are little novella's between the books in the main series, it's a nice taster to go back through the series and dip in every now and then.
Rolicking good series.
