Summary

In a gorgeous quay-side hotel in Cornwall, the long weekend is just beginning...

Claire Marlowe owns 'The Townhouse by the Sea' with Luca, the hotel's charismatic chef. She ensures everything runs smoothly - until an unexpected arrival checks in and turns her whole world upside down. And the rest of the guests arrive with their own baggage. There's a couple looking for distraction from a family tragedy; a man trying to make amends for an affair he bitterly regrets...and the young woman who thinks the Cornish village might hold the key to her past.

Here are affairs of the heart, secrets, lies and scandal - all wrapped up in one long, hot weekend.

Solid escapism, nothing groudbreaking but fun.

Would you try another book written by Veronica Henry or narrated by Anna Bentinck?

I might, but this is the second book I've heard Anna Bentinck narrate and she seems to have only a handful of character voices so each book contains the same voices which aren't always well matched to the characters.

If you’ve listened to books by Veronica Henry before, how does this one compare?

This is the first Veronica Henry book I've listened to.

How could the performance have been better?

A better understanding of the characters by the narrator. It wasn't awful, just a little wet.

Was The Long Weekend worth the listening time?

In the end it was, it took me a while to separate all the characters and to care sufficiently about their lives but once I did, I wanted to know the outcome.

Any additional comments?

This is a perfectly pleasant book, it didn't move me, it's not particularly original and I didn't learn much but it was an easy listen and I enjoyed the escapism.

Chorizo, coricho, coritho??

Great story with believable characters for a change. Only l do wish authors would stop telling us how utterly handsome some character is......describe him by all means! but please let us be the judge of whether all the females would 'stare at him drooling as he entered the room' or whether 'all the men would slightly question their sexuality on the sight of him' um NO.,!?? .....oh and please learn how to say 'chorizo' or at best stick to the one wrong pronunciation.
Still loved it though!

Very enjoyable chick-lit

This was really easy to listen to and there were plenty of strands to the story which kept it going happily all the way along. A satisfying ending and I will definitely hunt out some more books by this writer.

A good listen

A really enjoyable listen. The picturesque seaside resort of Pennfold is home to The Townhouse which is owned by the central character. Each guest that arrives has an agenda for their own long weekend and the story moves between the guests as events change their lives.

Felt quite emotional over one "scene" in the book.

Juicy, Romanitc, Easy to enjoy.

Any additional comments?

If you have just finished a serious book, and are looking for something a little more easy going and maybe fancy a bit of romance, you will no doubt enjoy this book.

It ticks all the boxes- it is a little cheesy and predictable, but sometimes you just need that!

Having read a couple of chick-lit romances, I have always felt like they were a complete waste of time afterwards, but when this one ended, I was a little sad it was all over.

You know it's a good audio book when in the middle of the day you're stood listening to it in the kitchen, then after ten minutes thinking "hmm what was I just doing?".
