Summary

The classic legal thriller and huge bestseller from master of the genre John Grisham.

David Zinc has it all: Big firm, big salary, life in the lawyer's fast lane.

Until the day he snaps and throws it all away.

Leaving the world of corporate law far behind, he talks himself into a new job with Finley & Figg. A self-styled 'boutique' firm with only two partners, Oscar Finley and Wally Figg are ambulance-chasing street lawyers who hustle nickel-and-dime cases, dreaming of landing the big win.

For all his Harvard Law Degree and five years with Chicago's top firm, Zinc has never entered a courtroom, never helped a client who really needed a lawyer, never handled a gun.

All that is about to change.

A legal roller-coaster

I'm a fan of Grisham's legal thrillers and I really enjoyed this one as I couldn't predict the twists and turns there would be next as an ill-assorted threesome of lawyers take on a big pharmaceutical company with bottomless wallets. It's real David and Goliath tussle with many humourous interludes interleaved with the author's hall-mark taughtly written court-room scenes. There's a strong cast of memorable characters and I was sorry when the book ended.

Street lawyers have never been so much fun

Grisham maintains his normal high standards in this frolic through the, sometimes seedy, world of the street lawyer, painting an interesting picture of the willingness to bend ethics standards in order to chase the dream of money, apllying these standards liberally, if not equally, to all levels of the profession.

My only real criticism is the reader's continued, somewhat grating, pronunciation of certain words.

Pretty good

Oddly enough, I think John Grisham is better read on the page than listened to. This is quite fun but not my greatest listen ever.

Top Notch Grisham!

This is my first Grisham for a few years and it was top notch! It's very character driven (in a good way!) and you are taken on their journey. Some nice twists too and the story unfolds. Definitely a 5 star book!

awesome story

Great story with detailed character descriptions, funny bits too, loved it, great work. John Gisham at it best, surprised that no one has made a movie on it...

Grisham at his Whimsical Best

Would anyone take to the Law after reading a John Grisham Novel. I doubt it but he brings humour and sardonic wit to a profession he surely despises despite being a rich source of his devious plots
One of his best

Another classic from John Grisham

Story from beginning to end with a happy outcome. I realised partway through that I had listened to it before, but it was so good, I enjoyed it again.

Make some time

John Grisham does it again, very difficult to put the book down (turn it off). Easy to follow and understand, great descriptions and a fast moving story.

An absolute cracker delivered with deadpan panache

Wonderful characters, justice, and rib splitting humour, delivered by Dennis Boutsikaris, the best I've heard since John Lee.
