The Limping Ghost is a wildly comedic World War II espionage romp following the accidental exploits of Major Basil Pemberton-Smythe an upper-class British bungler who stumbles into becoming one of the most feared secret agents in Nazi-occupied Europe. After a catastrophic clerical error lands him inside MI5, Basil is mistaken for a legendary covert operative and sent behind enemy lines to assist the French Resistance. The problem? Basil possesses absolutely no useful espionage skills whatsoever. He can barely ride a bicycle, has an unfortunate history involving swans, and seems physically incapable of entering a room without causing structural damage.Yet through an astonishing combination of panic, bad luck, flying poultry, collapsing furniture, runaway horses, exploding sausage carts, and complete misunderstanding, Basil inadvertently creates chaos across occupied France. German Intelligence becomes convinced that The Limping Ghost is a master saboteur employing advanced psychological warfare tactics, while Basil himself remains primarily concerned with finding tea, dry trousers, and a safe distance from goats. As rail networks collapse, invasion panics spread, and Captain Erich Vogel of German Intelligence slowly descends into madness trying to stop him, Basil somehow transforms into an unlikely Allied legend.Packed with pratfalls, absurd misunderstandings, eccentric Resistance fighters, theatrical espionage disasters, and wonderfully British understatement, The Limping Ghost is a joyful comedy of errors in the spirit of Catch-22, Blackadder, and Right Ho, Jeeves.Because sometimes historys greatest hero is simply the last idiot still standing.©2026 Tim Gwynne Battersby (P)2026 Tim Gwynne Battersby Performing Arts
