Fitzwilliam Darcy has had enough—enough of the ton and their speculations, enough of matchmaking mamas and their eager daughters, and enough of his family’s expectations that he will eventually marry his cousin Anne. Craving solitude and peace after discovering his sister with George Wickham in Ramsgate, he accepts an invitation to visit Netherfield Park from his friend Charles Bingley and travels to Hertfordshire, where he hopes Georgiana will recover from her disappointment in relative privacy.

Story
Based on Jane Austen’s classic novel, Pride and Prejudice, Mr. Darcy’s arrogance and pride are equally matched by Miss Elizabeth’s prejudice. While Mr. Darcy hesitates to speak, his cousin, Colonel Fitzwilliam, quite against his canon character, blurts his thought in the most inconvenient manner, adding to Darcy's distress. In this fast-paced novella set in regency England, can they both overcome strongly entrenched personalities and the attempts to matchmake by the colonel to discover peace and happiness? Of course they can. This is Mr. Darcy and his Elizabeth, he hopes.

Story
When Fitzwilliam Darcy makes an impetuous offer of marriage to Miss Elizabeth Bennet, he is convinced they have as good a chance as any for a harmonious life together. That is, until an overheard conversation changes everything, and Darcy realizes he is now joined in perpetuity to a woman who loathes the very sight of him. Elizabeth Bennet's expectations for matrimonial accord were never very high, having accepted Mr. Darcy's proposal in a fit of pique, not love. Still, she is determined to make the best of her situation. But life at Pemberley is not at all what she imagined.

Probably 3.75 Stars From Me
My sister got me started on JAFF, and I’ve read/listened to maybe 10-12 books and short stories. While I don’t have as much experience with this category of fan-fiction as others, I do have a lot of experience with Miss Austen. Her creations are so enduring they allow constant and inventive variations.
This one was more inventive than most. I’ve no idea of J. Dawn King’s experience as a writer, I can only share with you my experience as a reader.
First: the story occasionally jumps ahead as if a couple of pages were omitted. Combine that with with almost every trope of regency fiction: pirates, smugglers, guardians, kidnappings, courtship, etc, etc (minus a runaway carriage and a debutante’s debut) it ends up feeling like I’m reading a serial novel published in a Victorian paper, or a penny dreadful.
Second: the characters are similar on the surface to Austen’s, but not essentially the same. While I suppose this is what allows the plot to develop in a wildly different manner, it didn’t really allow for further character development. This is just a matter of personal taste as I prefer a character driven story, rather than a plot driven one. Mr. Bingley’s character was especially jarring, since he departed most dramatically from Austen’s. In the original P&P he is extremely good natured but not a flirt: he is Jane’s and Jane’s alone. I wish I could ask the author, what did Mr. Bingley ever do to you to deserve this treatment? [joking] In all seriousness though, pretty much every character ends as they began, with the exception of Kitty and Lydia, compliments of boarding school. The transformation in Darcy and Elizabeth’s relationship is fairly quick and has little to do with personal growth and more to do with a simple change in opinion.
So while this is not my cup of tea, others may find it fun and rewarding. Stevie Zimmerman has the right sprightliness for the tone of this book, and whatever else it may lack, it is never boring.

This Duo is always a winner
When I saw J. Dawn King and Stevie Zimmerman it went immediately to the cart and I was not disappointed.
Ms King took the basic recipe of the original and gave it a good twist, threw in a couple of romantic changes, added some extra surprises, a few new crimes for the usual villains, a pinch of danger and adventure, shook it vigorously and served up a very tasty dish.
Top this off with narration by the fabulous Stevie Zimmerman, clear your calendar and sit back and enjoy!

Stevie Zimmerman you are under arrest!
It should be a crime to be this good at narrating pride and prejudice variations. I think that maybe she somehow has a small essence of Jane Austen‘s ghost in her and that is why she’s been able to execute each one of these projects so well. Really good read if you’re like a crazed person like myself who cannot stop with these pride and prejudice variations. Mr. Darcy and Lizzie have some pretty good obstacles to overcome and it’s so satisfying at the end. Although I will keep advocating for more spicy scenes.

Loved it ❤️
I really loved it. I'm not English, but I like to "read" books on pride and prejudice and you can't really find them in Italian, it's not the first one I have read of this author and I really love how her stories do justice to the time period and the characters. Go read it!!! ❤️
