Summary

The Legion of Flame is the action-packed second audiobook in the Draconis Memoria series - an enthralling epic fantasy of magic, adventure and the furious battle to forge an empire.

Claydon Torcreek has survived drake-infested jungles, hostile tribes and the cold touch of betrayal - yet his troubles have only just begun.

The legendary white drake - believed to be nothing more than a myth - has awoken from its long slumber, with a thirst to reduce the world of men to ashes. One city has already fallen to the drake's formidable legions.

More will follow unless Clay can uncover an ancient secret that lies buried beneath the southern ice. Once again Clay must face unthinkable danger, and this time he carries not just the hopes of his own nation but the fate of the entire world.

Great narration!

Would you listen to The Legion of Flame again? Why?

Not only would listen again, but certainly will.

What did you like best about this story?

Enough major characters to keep the "what next, for goodness sake" factor really high. Always something happening.

What does Steve West bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Steve West made an exciting book brilliant with his narration. Surely there is eight of him!! Intense changes of character amazing to hear.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

The Colours of Dragons

Any additional comments?

Can't wait for the next instalment.

A great second book.

I loved the story, another great book from Anthony Ryan. Sadly, let down by the reader, only because it is a different guy to the first book in this series.

legion of flame

I found it unpredictable which made a refreshing change! Good story lines and characterisation.
Bloke reading it does a really good job, female voices not especially irritating as they can be sometimes when a man tries to do them 😉

I have really got into this...

I did struggle a with getting into part 1 of this series, but I think part 2 has really brought the story along. I agree with other reviewers that this series is not as compelling as the Tower Lord Series, but it still has a lot about it. The magic system is nearly as clever as a Sanderson creation, and I really like how Dragons play a large role in all of it. Looking forward to part 3.

surprising little gem

I'm really enjoying this series - it has a Malazan feel to it - no where near as large or complicated but a nice flavour non the less. I will certainly be getting the 3rd audio book.
my only complaint is the Narrator. the 1st book has a different narrator to the 2nd. both had lively English accents but the narrator of the 2nd book decided to give some of the main characters an American Southern drawl. it was just bearable with the male characters, but went through me when it was the female characters sounding like southern bells.

Bring back Steve

Bring back Steve brand as narrator. Never good changing narrator half way through a series :-(
Otherwise enjoyable

Change of narrator

I didn't like the change of narrator.

It took a while to get going. If I hadn't of read book 1 and want to see it to the end I'm not sure I would stuck it out if the start of book 2 was the start of book 1.

The legion of flame review

Absolutley brilliant, I have been waiting for this book and audible to come out for a while, ever since I read the waking fire. It is so well written and the character are brilliant. Can't wait for book 3 pre ordered already.

Excellent story let down slightly by performance

Why o why change narrators mid series?
Please bring Brand back, his simple approach to delivering the narrative lend itself so well to this, the second book, in the series. To add to this his style allowed me to envisage the environment, and somehow truly strengthened steampunk feel to the book.
