About this listen

Inspector Ravenscroft and Constable Tom Crabb return for their most dangerous adventure yet. Perfect for fans of M.R.C. Kasasian, E.S. Thomson, Oscar De Muriel and Karen Charlton.

A mysterious stranger arrives in the small Herefordshire market town of Ledbury. He offers a solicitor, Anthony Midwinter, a generous sum to look after a package for him until spring, no questions asked. The stranger warns that it must remain sealed or else the very stability of England will come under threat. The Ledbury Lamplighters see out the year with a public ceremony extinguishing the town's lamps, a local tradition. A prominent local businessman is brutally murdered in full view of the revellers. Detective Inspector Samuel Ravenscroft is reunited with his old friend and colleague, Constable Tom Crabb. They unravel a sequence of events that threatens the very political and social stability of the country.

I really enjoyed the story and narration of this 3rd book in the series.
Full of atmosphere, and twists that will keep you guessing until the end

This is the third Kerry Tomes book my hubby and I have listened to. I know some may say it’s old fashioned and rather slow. However, we have enjoyed the slower pace of this murder mystery set in the 19th century where gentlemen, ladies and true bounders abide. Once again we follow Ravenscroft and his trusty companion Crabb as they navigate yet another couple of murders. I also liked how the character Cranston features in all three of the series books so far. He is a lurking menace that emerges from the shadows and in this book that storyline reaches a nail biting climax.
Anyone wanting a gentle paced good old fashioned sleuthing novel need look no further than this series by Kerry Tomes. I look forward to meeting new villains in the next book

I am really enjoying these stories by Kerry Tombs. The Ravenscroft stories are excellent with strong characters and very good story plots. I love the descriptions of the area too, and the lack of violence and strong language are a real treat. Expertly narrated. Looking forward to the next story.
