Story
A young woman turns up at a police station. She has been kept prisoner in her own home. Abused and tortured, her every move watched, her every thought controlled. Now she's finally escaped. That's what she says. But when the police arrive at the address she's given them, her story doesn't seem to add up. Her husband is missing, but his phone and wallet are still in the house. She says she's the victim, but what if she's not? What if the stories she's telling aren't her stories at all....

It was supposed to be the happiest day of her life. Zoe was sitting in her hotel room, in her perfect white dress, looking forward to the moment when she would make kind, handsome Toby her husband. Story
It's hard being that woman, the one whose husband disappeared. He went out five years ago for a pint of milk and never came back. So here I am with a daughter who blames me for everything, a son trying his best to pick up the pieces and a gaggle of neighbours who are incredibly nosy. Then I find a left luggage ticket in the pocket of one of his old coats and suddenly I'm thinking... What if he's not dead? What if he's still out there somewhere?

Story
At first, Katherine dismisses her early-20s intern as a millennial ‘snowflake’: soft, entitled, moralistic. Yet as Lily’s youth and beauty increasingly remind Katherine of everything she once had, she starts to develop a dark fascination with her new colleague. But is Lily as perfect as she seems - or does she have a sinister hidden agenda? As Katherine is drawn into an obsessive power struggle with the intern, a disturbing portrait emerges of two women hiding dark secrets - and who are desperate enough to do anything to come out on top.

Narrated by the most compelling voice since Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, this is a quirky and original voyage of self-discovery triggered by a lost urn of ashes. The mini cab office was up a cobbled mews with little flat houses either side. That's where I first met Violet Park, what was left of her. There was a healing centre next door, a pretty smart name for a place with a battered brown door and no proper door handle and stuck-on wooden numbers in the shape of clowns.

The victim was revered the world over for his charitable work with trafficked Eastern European prostitutes, and as at least one of these girls is missing, Detective Chief Inspector Tom Douglas is certain that there has to be a connection.

Summary
A novel that grips from the very beginning and that will live long in the memory, The Last Thing I Remember is Deborah Bee's startling debut thriller.
Sarah is in a coma. Her memory is gone - she doesn't know how she got there. And she doesn't know how she might get out. But then she discovers that her injury wasn't an accident. And that the assailant hasn't been caught.
Unable to speak, see or move, Sarah must use every clue that she overhears to piece together her own past. And work out who it is that keeps coming into her room.

Absolutely brilliant - Yes there's bad language but please don't be put off by it!
I hadn't read anything by this author, in all honesty, I hadn't even heard of this author before I got this book. But... I'm SO happy I've read/listened it.
When I started this audiobook, I wasn't keen on the narrator for Kelly's voice - Kelly uses a lot of bad language (like, every other word, give or take) and I wasn't 100% convinced I'd enjoy this book despite the good reviews.
I can honestly - hand-on-heart - say I'm very upset the book has ended!
Yes there's bad language but I LOVE Kelly! I love her fight and spirit. I love her outlook and views. I absolutely love the narrator for Kelly (I actually loved both narrators). This is a simple book, there's a simple storyline but at the same time, there's so much going on. Everything is linked and tied up in the end. There wasn't a single point where this story 'dragged' or 'lost momentum'. Each chapter perfectly unravelled the story. I like how there are several themes running through this book; especially the whole 'being pretty/beautiful' and the need for the characters to blend in.
Yes there's bad language but please, please don't be put off by it!!! You won't regret it!

Stunning!
Wow I just can’t believe what I’ve just listened to! This must be the best book Ive listened to all year! The story, the characters and the Narration, were just superb! To give it five stars for everything is just not enough. Ten stars would be more like it. I’ve finished it in one sitting.
It may not be for everyone as it is widely sprinkled with profanity from one character, but this is part of the personality involved. One who was brilliantly portrayed and in fact, my favourite of the whole story. But both of the narrators Yolanda Kettle and Lucy Middleweek did a wonderful job and I will definitely look our for books they read. As I will for author Deborah Bee. And to think I’ve had this gem sitting in my TRR/L for months..

Boring....
I’ve tried a few times to get into this book and now I’ve thrown in the towel. I just cant take anymore of the teenage angst from Kelly. The swearing didn’t bother me but boy the endless tedious monologues did.
The chapters from Sarah’s point of view were better and I would have preferred more of these.
The narrators were good hence the two stars and I’m sure there are better ‘lock in’ mystery novels out there.

Shame about the bad language
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Probably not. Simply because I found the swearing excessive and think most of my friends would agree.
What did you like best about this story?
It's basically a good story, told from different viewpoints which I liked and it's not too long.
Would you be willing to try another one of Yolanda Kettle and Lucy Middleweek ’s performances?
Yes, I'm open to listening to both. They were both good readers, it was the the swearing I didn't like but that was how the book was written.
If this book were a film would you go see it?
Doubtful
Any additional comments?
An overall good listen and I'm obviously in the minority when I say I did not like the Kelly character. Yes, I know she's typical of today's generation but the excessive swearing was way too much for me. (But, I am an old fuddy duddy of 70)

fab and couldn't put down
love this autor! really enjoys the story tellers in this book. Kelly's character has a foul mouth but I could really envision her. It was different from most books. It was literally a story being told and slowly unravelled. Not really a plot twist kind of book but just giving you enough to want more without giving too much away. It was fab, sad when it ended. gonna miss the characters.

Grow up...
I'm really tired of ppl giving authors bad reviews because they can't stand some 4 letter words. Mostly women. Ladies, please be grown ups. If you can read about murder you can handle some curse words. Reading a book with cursing never hurt anyone. So.... it just sounds petty and prudish. I loved the book thought it was extremely well written and realistic.
I wasn't bored not minute. I would recommend it to any mature adult.

Are you like F*ing kidding me??
I understand that the author wanted us to know the character of a foul mouthed 14 year old girl, but the immature dialogue and nonstop f*words from the teenagers and almost every other character in the book ruined what could have potentially been an interesting story. There was also a lot of confusing build up to a very rushed ending. I am not at all impressed by this author or her very poorly written debut novel.

Disappointed
Maybe this is just not for me but I found the narrator very hard to listen to. She has an Irish (?) accent and while interesting, it is hard to follow for an American. I thought the story was going to really get into the mystery right away. I couldn't follow it. I guess you are listening as though you are the protagonist in the coma. Overhearing everything. It was just too passive for me and difficult to follow. I'm disappointed because I love mysteries and this had a high rating. You win some, you lose some.

Bad language
The language was ridiculous but it didn’t bother me that much, that kid was freaking hilarious! The story was pretty good. And I have to say the author gets major points for telling an original story!! A breath of fresh air! Different story with realistic characters, I loved it. I cuss sometimes myself, so bad language doesn’t bother me but I think it could have been toned down a lot. Still a good story though! Go Debbie 🐝

Excellent BUT
I almost returned this book because of the usage of the f-word SO OFTEN! but I can understand the use, coming from a messed up 14 yr old.
Something made me read on. Aside from that word being in abundance in my mind now, the story was excellent. Only 4 stars due to the word usage.
