About this listen

The Shadowhunters must catch a killer in Edwardian London in this dangerous and romantic sequel to the number one New York Times best-selling novel Chain of Gold, from New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Cassandra Clare. Chain of Iron is a Shadowhunters novel.

Cordelia Carstairs seems to have everything she ever wanted. She’s engaged to marry James Herondale, the boy she has loved since childhood. She has a new life in London with her best friend, Lucie Herondale, and James’ charming companions, the Merry Thieves. She is about to be reunited with her beloved father. And she bears the sword Cortana, a legendary hero’s blade.

But the truth is far grimmer. James and Cordelia’s marriage is a lie, arranged to save Cordelia’s reputation. James is in love with the mysterious Grace Blackthorn, whose brother, Jesse, died years ago in a terrible accident. Cortana burns Cordelia’s hand when she touches it, while her father has grown bitter and angry. And a serial murderer is targeting the Shadowhunters of London, killing under cover of darkness, then vanishing without a trace.

Together with the Merry Thieves, Cordelia, James and Lucie must follow the trail of the knife-wielding killer through the city’s most dangerous streets. All the while, each is keeping a shocking secret: Lucie, that she plans to raise Jesse from the dead, Cordelia, that she has sworn a dangerous oath of loyalty to a mysterious power and James, that he is being drawn further each night into the dark web of his grandfather, the arch-demon Belial. And that he himself may be the killer they seek.

loved it from start to finish. wish it was easier to determine the order as I've listened backwards but thoroughly enjoyed

I really enjoyed this book; it was a great story and I liked the narration. It would be nice if they added the chapter names to the book though (at the moment it just says Chapter 1 etc, which aren't even accurate because of the introduction to the book), it annoyed me a little but it's not the end of the world!

Loved it!

The romantic side of this story is a very explicit and should come with a warning of adult content. The main character romance is highly frustrating! Just want to scream.

However having said all that the story of shadow hunter world is fast pace, exciting and makes you not want to stop listening, there so much going on its hard to keep up at times, but it was definitely not boring. I think the voices are great, love the narration.

Catchy but frustrating

The story was exciting and provided twists, James and Daisy was far too drawn out.

Exciting and Gripping - ending too long

Great characters and the plot moves along nicely. Love the romance and I'm glad after reading Mortal Instruments I started chronologically right back at the first book about Tessa. Finty Williams does a good job of bringing the characters to life. Cassandra Clare does a great job of immersing you in shadowhunter world as well as Edwardian London - a perfect combination. I almost prefer it to modern day London. Looking forward to completing the whole 20 series of books!
