In December 2017, famed adult film star August Ames died by suicide in a park in the Conejo Valley. Her death came just a day after she’d been the victim of a social media pile-on by fellow porn professionals—punishment for her tweeting out something deemed homophobic.
A month later, August’s husband and pornography producer Kevin Moore connected with journalist Jon Ronson to tell the story of how cyberbullying via Twitter killed his wife. Neither of them could predict the rumors and secrets that Ronson would soon hear, revelations that hinted at a very different story—something mysterious and unexpected and terrible.

The Straw Effect
A thought-provoking and heart-breaking investigation into personal choice, poor relationship choices, social media and ultimately human frailty. Social media and the backlash from an all too often seen, not well thought out tweet and the importance we place on the approval of one person over another. When the harshness of life starts to pile up, sadly it only takes a single straw to break the camels back.

Porn people are pretty fucked up
His books and audible series just keep getting better.poor jons wife must be hoping it's his last foray into the porn world where they all seem quite sad and fucked up.

Ronson always intriguing
I'd recommend any of Ronson's work as a great example of Gonzo investigation. his own interest in the subject matter is infectious

Desperately sad
The story of a young girl abused and exploited by men, ending her life in a violent way, and an industry that consumes people with mental illnesses. Jon Ronson is an extraordinary and compassionate guide into these dark corners.

Very well narrated.
Having read about August Ames before and thinking this was a strange accident this audio makes me still think this could be murder rather than a suicide..
Her husband certainly hadn't done himself any favours through these interviews l!
