Summary

Marion Zimmer Bradley was a best-selling science fiction author, a feminist icon, and was awarded the World Fantasy Award for lifetime achievement. She was best known for the Arthurian fiction novel The Mists of Avalon and for her very popular Darkover series.

She was also a monster.

The Last Closet: The Dark Side of Avalon is a brutal tale of a harrowing childhood. It is the true story of predatory adults preying on the innocence of children without shame, guilt, or remorse. It is an eyewitness account of how high-minded utopian intellectuals, unchecked by law, tradition, religion, or morality, can create a literal Hell on Earth.

The Last Closet is also an inspiring story of survival. It is a powerful testimony to courage, to hope, and to faith. It is the story of Moira Greyland, the only daughter of Marion Zimmer Bradley and convicted child molester Walter Breen, told in her own words.

Vulnerable, brave, heartbreaking

This story was hard to hear, but I'm glad I read it. It has changed my view of the world forever, and has changed and deepened my understanding of so many things. I greatly admire the author for her bravery, fortitude, and compassion. I am so thankful I read this book. It's not a book to be undertaken lightly. I am an avid reader and have read many excellent books, that have earned and deserved many accolades, but this is the first one I feel I must write a recommendation for.

worth a listen.

this is a hard book to listen to but I am grateful that Moria was willing to share her story. Evil thrives in darkness and Moria has done a great job of shining light on a dark part of the culture

Angry

While the author has every right to be angry with her parents, she conflates their aberrant lifestyle to being gay and lesbian. Here parents were pedophiles and cruel, not gay.

very biased against the LBTQ community

A sad story of trauma that unfortunately led to wild generalizations about the LBTQ community

Bold Truths

Moira tells her story with boldness; uninhibited courage. God bless her and her journey. Thank you for sharing this controversial book with the world. We need to read more on this subject for clarity and insights on some of the struggles some of our kids are facing today.

Terrible Narration, not so great book...

I really struggled to make my way through the book. i feel terrible for what the author went through but so many parts came across as just so pretentious... and can we please be reminded just how talented the author is? Yes, recite one more sophomoric poem, and relate how you were so surprised to be considered a professional harp player when people are paying you for your performances....and then the gay bashing - she quotes from studies that were not scientific and from unreliable sources just to support her views - it makes her not credible. I am sorry she is so damaged but I can't excuse her intolerance. Sexual orientation has nothing to do with pedophilia and to make such a claim just shows how damaged she really is. I wish her well but cannot support her bigotry, regardless of its origin.
