Summary

The greatest warriors are forged in the flamesTwo pagan fighters.

771AD, Northern Europe. Bjarki Bloodhand and Tor Hildarsdottir are journeying south into Saxony. Their destination is the Irminsul, the One Tree that links the Nine Worlds of the Middle-Realm. In this most holy place, they hope to learn how to summon their animal spirits so they can enter the ranks of the legendary berserkir: the elite frenzied fighters of the North.

One Christian king

Karolus, newly crowned King of the Franks, has a thorn in his side: the warlike Saxon tribes on his northern borders who shun the teachings of the Church, blasphemously continuing to worship their pagan gods.

An epic battle for the soul of the North

The West's greatest warlord vows to stamp out his neighbours' superstitions and bring the light of the True Faith to the Northmen - at the point of a sword. It will fall to Bjarki, Tor and the men and women of Saxony to resist him in a struggle for the fate of all Europe.

Conan, but with Pagans and Christians

Proudly wears its inspirations on its sleeve, a bit of a historically accurate, winding epic. Plenty of historical detail in there, a bit Lord of the Rings in places with lists and environmental detail. Starts of slow with some good fights small battles and characters, a few nice twists in the middle and at the end! Plenty of good fights to get stuck into.

Couldn’t put it down

It is not often that I find a book that I can not put down especially fiction but the last Beserker lit the fire to my curiosity regarding Berserker ritual and tradition, the story was gripping throughout and characters interesting and relatable for myself. Great read I found this book searching for information on berserkers online and what a lucky find. I will be starting the second in the series soon!

The Last Berserker

Not up to the usual standard by Angus - frankly a little juvenile . The narrator is awful sounding as though he was reading the book for the first time and absolutely no real distinction in voice tone between the characters .

Don't know what book the 5 star reviewers heard

I thought this was terrible. The story was lame, the characters 2 dimensional lackluster and totally forgettable, much like the oration.
I have enjoyed books by this author before but this was abysmal and 2 stars is being very generous.

May be best to read this one yourself

I’m a fan of the author and I’ve read this book already. Covid came visiting and I thought tell you what I’ll listen to Berserker with that credit I’ve got on auditable as I need something easy listening whilst I recuperate.

It’s anything but easy listening, the deadpan performance by the narrator will do this great story no good at all on audible and it’s such a shame.

Great stories from the author so if you get the chance read them.
